That's why all car companies advertise crank HP. With so many cars advertising sport sedans at 300hp, I felt pretty inadequate !
(In past threads the drivetrain loss percent that was kicked around was aprrox. 28%.)
I think my car dynoed at about 365 or there abouts. So working in reverse the crank or "advertised" hp would be around 500hp! So when your friends ask and you want to impress, give the crank hp.

The dyno measures the acceleration of the roller revolutions. The acceleration of the rollers is a product of their inertia and the force being applied at the radius by the car's 4 wheels. This torque number is graphed against time, or RPM of the car, to get the torque curve.

Then, the conversion formula is applied to find the horsepower number.

Horsepower = (torque in ftlbs* rpm) / 5252
