Default weird noise...

SO i was driving the other night and my rear wheels locked up. i pulled over thinking it was my transfer case, jacked the car up to see a pair of blue jeans wrapped around my drive shaft where it connects to the rear axel. so i tried to cut them off with a box cutter and i released the drive shaft from the grip of the pants, but they had gotten pushed up above the area where it connects to the axel.

Today, i was driving and my car started making a high pitch squealing noise like metal on metal, coming from the rear of the car. So when i got home, i jacked it up to see the pants hanging from my car and i finally got them out. ill post a picture later. they are torn to hell.

It only does it when i am moving so its not in the engine, and only does it some of the time. I dont know if its a break pad, or something to do with the drive shaft, VCU, or anything elase that could be affected like that.

any input of what might be damaged from the incident would help.

Heres some pics and a sound clip. (kinda bad clip but you can hear it)

where do i upload sound clips at??
thanks
joel

From what you have described, it almost sounds like something with your brakes. Awhile back my drivers side rear brake caliper would randomly lock up on me while I was going down the road and it eventually just ate up the brake pads before I even caught the problem. Then it would just randomly make a metal on metal screeching noise. That would be my first guess. Then again, it may also be drivetrain related as you mentioned.

i got my brakes checked all the pads are worn about 50%...

another thing i noticed is that it only makes the noise when i go frowards. when i reverse, it doesnt do it. and it sounds like its coming from the reaqr of the car.

if anyone can tell me where i can upload a video for free without losing quality ill get a vid up.

stealth,I would take a close look at your center support bearing and all u joints for any obvious damage . When you locked the rears you put a considerable load on every thing forward of the diff . If nothing obvious put it on an appropriate lift start it and have it CAREFULLY inspected while in a forward gear with you or an assistant in the car . Good Luck . Steve

tell me about it.

EDIT:
Just remembered... idk if it has to do with what happened, but when i got my brakes checked, he said that where my front passenger axle hits the transmission its leaking a watery oil... or something like that. said i should get it checked at a shop.
Anyone know what that might mean?

bump and what kind of grease would i put on those joints? i was told that the jeans probably just wiped all the grease out of those u-joints. and thats what the noise is. is the bare metal rubbing.

stealth texan, the U joints ,if OEM ,are sealed hence you cannot lube them . The grease at your RT Front axle is a CV boot getting ready to fail .You need to correct this soon . The boot kits are about 15.00 to 20.00 at Kragen or about 55.00 at the dealerships . If you choose to go to a dealer I would recomend Mentor Mitsubishi in Ohio they are really good people to deal with . Good Luck . Steve
