i ended buying the synchro kit and 3rd gear synchro from Philip @ super-car. he charged $89 for the 3rd gear synchro. no shipping charge on mine since i ordered other parts, so he'll just throw it in there i guess.

So are these actually still being made in japan or are these just the last few left there?
I would be best advised to stop shopping for an AWD parts car if the trans are turning into dead ends. I really really really dont want that to happen cause I love the AWD platform.

northbend or another company will eventually begin producing all the syncros. There is enough demand that someone will eventually step up and make the parts. If nothing else if your syncro teeth are not damaged it would be possible to have new coatings put on them. If need be I do not see why the syncros could not be machined on a cnc machine and then coated with friction material. It is not like it is rocket science. |

The rings are usually cast. To CNC a ring would be horribly expensive. We have a good customer here who is a jeweler. He has all of the equipment and know-how to cast bronze rings, but even that was going to be too expensive. We take these parts prices from the manufacturer for granted. For as complex as these parts are, they are amazingly cheap. There is no way to make these parts for the same price as the manufacturer unless someone were to order several hundred or thousand of them at a time. Spider gears for the DSM trannies come to mind. A few of us got together to have a run of over 500 gears made. It still quoted out to cost more for those gears with a lot of 500 made than it was to buy the factory $169.00 kit for only a pair of them...
There are some rings floating around that were made in China that look like they fit our trannies, but they grind or shift like crap. If you find someone that can do it for cheap, like in China, you get a cheap part that doesn't work. You have to pay when it comes to that stuff, and with a car like the 3S that is getting older and is acquiring more owners that are not willing to pay for the correct parts, you have more people less interested in making parts for them. I'm still looking for a 2nd gear synchro and slider, as well as a 3rd gear slider if anyone knows where to get them.
Thanks! --Adam

Hey guys, the parts I ordered from my dodge dealer turned out to be the right ones except for the synchros because they were the all brass version. I ordered the entire hub assembly for 3rd gear, 2 extra synchros, and a the 3rd gear itself for I think a little over $500. I just ordered a synchro from JackM to replace the one Dodge sent me. I was told by the dealer that there were only 2 of the gears left in the US which were located at two different dealerships, so they contacted the dealer for me and shipped it out. I guess I can say that I got pretty lucky.

Yeah I guess I was wrong....haha....my transmission shop told me last week the parts didn't fit.....So I'm gonna try and return them and now I need to find a new 3rd gear. I haven't looked for a 2nd Gear synchro.....so I guess I wouldn't know.
