Default Transmission Replacement: Simple Question (I hope)

I have mainly been following the steps listed here : http://www.stealth316.com/2-trany.htm

I am currently stuck on getting the half shafts out. I have them out of the hub/rotor assy. and can't seem to get them out of the tranny. Directions say pass. side has a C clip and I'm not sure how to remove this.... Drivers side doesn't seem to want to break free either. I have never worked on a FWD tranny before... my helper has but it was an old civic and he said they just pulled out.

This is on my 92 TT if there is any difference.

Any tips from the pros? Thanks in advance.

you mention about a fwd 3s. but you're working on a 92 TT? I thought TT means they're awd stealth? either way. they are a bit to remove, after you remove the clips, it takes a bit of pulling, i don't remember how many bolts i took out around that area but, when i did mine(base 3kgt) it took a while to pull them out, or more like yank them out. lol. I didn't seem to break anything. so i guess that worked.

Sorry, by FWD I meant AWD.... I only have experience on RWD trucks. They are much easier to work on!!

So, how are the clips removed?? I have the car up high on jackstands and haven't been able to see such clips.

The c clip is on the end of the staft inside the transmission. It compresses and locks the axle in place. Use a big screwdriver to apply some pressure and pop the axle out. Be careful with the seals.

Passenger side: Prybar between the axle and tranny. Pry and it will pop out.
Driver side: Un bolt the carier bearing (2 14MM bolts) and remove, no prying required.

Those "C" clips can be a bit of a pain sometimes... equal prying on opposite sides of the CV axle is key.

So, how do you get the front wheel bearings out of the hubs of a late model 4x4 3/4 ton Dodge? I'll pull my engine/trans out of my Stealth again before I do another one of those.

Ok after furthur inspection I've located the 2 14mm bolts. Next question is how in the F$#@ can you get those bastards out. There doesn't seem to be any room to get to them from below and from the drivers side wheel well I don't seem to have a combination of wratchets to loosen even the bottom nut. (top looks to be twice as hard to get to)

Any secrets?

I know these cars are tight but what I'm looking at is rediculous.

phantomrt: I've never messed with wheel bearings before. Just tranny replacement on RWD trucks. GL

THey come out with just enough room. I think i stick my arm up through the wheel well area and use my other from behind to hold the ratchet on the bolt.

Dont mix up those two bolts with the others, they are a different thread pitch.
