My transfer case is leaking, so I went into the dealership today. They said the recall had been done in 2002, and they don't re-do recalls. Do I have any options other than paying to fix it myself? Is this really the policy of Dodge, or is the service guy at my local dealership just being a dick?

A safety recall is for the life of the vehicle. I work at a Chrysler dealer and we have redone many recalls over and over if the part keeps failing. You could call dodge's customer service number I guess, its more the dealer being a pain than anything. I have no clue why they refuse these things, they make money doing them. I have replaced tcases for several members on this board and even a transmission for one members whose tcase locked up and broke his bell housing.

I was really suprised that they didn't even look at it. They just looked it up in the compuer and saw that it was done and sent me on my way. I would have taken it, and checked it out knowing there was some problem. If it is the recall problem, Dodge pays them, if it turns out to be something else, I pay them. Now they get nothing. Thanks for the info, I'll try some other dealerships. Mitsu won't fix a dodge will they? How about a Chrysler dealership?

Paylay is right, some of the stealships are just being difficult when it comes to re-servicing a recall problem. I was lucky, my local Mits dealer performed the recall on my car over a year ago. I went back 2 months ago because I noticed my t-case fill was gone. They were the last people to screw with it. 4 days later, new threads were tapped, a new plug was installed & the t-case was flushed of any aluminum shavings. So far so good.

I just had my transmission rebuilt by another shop, and I pointed out the leak to them while it was on the hoist. They claim that (and it looks like) they don't take the transfer case off from where it is leaking, so they couldn't have caused the leak.
What exactly is covered by the recall? It looks like my leak is coming from the seam perpendicular to the driveshaft, farthest back on the TC. |

Just because the recall was performed on your car doesn't mean they did anything. If at 1st the car was taken in for the initial recall, and they determined there was no leaking. That car will be marked off as having been serviced for the recall notice. It's kind of tricky. I mean, do you risk waiting for something to happen, then take it in, or not. You know how stingy the dealerships are. Last edited by Sean Johnson : 01-05-2005 at 11:17 AM. |

If your case has a puncture, than more than likely, you don't have any oil left inside it. I wouldn't be driving that thing around. If you're driving that thing around dry, a piece of gear or tooth may have come lose, causing the puncture.
Has it already had the recall performed? You need to get a hold of the dealership. If you have a luncture, I bet they WILL have to replace it. Good luck, and keep us informed of what the dealership says. SJ |

I've talked to several Mitsubishi Dealerships. And they all say that my TX-Case was replaced in 1998. But they also said that if it had'nt been replaced that they would still change it under the recal.
