Default Re: Transfer Case Recall - IMPORTANT, Pleas Read!!!!

Has anyone got their tranny fixed becasue of problems with the TC? When they replaced my TC I guess they checked the oil in the tranny but nothing else. A little after the recall I started having problems after driving for a while so I asked them to check the TC oil and tranny for any problems and $400 later they say my car is fine. So I drive it back home 300 miles from home where it broke down and on the way back I get the same problem again. It feels like a bearing is grabbing. So I take it to the tranny shop that put the new tranny in before my TC went and they said my tranny oil was really dirty for a tranny with less than 10000K. I looked at the oil and it was really dark. This was a week after I had it checked by a dealer. I took it to a mechanic that knows Stealths and told him about the dirty oil and he said it's the Viscous coupling in the tranny. Expensive repair job and it's taken me a long time to find this new problem. But I can pretty much guarentee that when my TC locked up at 200 Km/h and blew the gears apart in the TC that it put a lot of force through the transmission. I guess I dont really have any way to prove it other than the few KM I have put on since the recall.

I just talked to a guy from Chrysler customer service about a different problem and he told me my '92 stealth hadn't had the transfer case recall problem fixed yet and that I should mention it to the dealership to get it done.
Chrysler's toll free # is 1-800-992-1997 You can have a rep. call your dealer if you need to. Just follow the menu and have your vin # ready. Be prepared to be on hold for awhile if you want to talk to a rep though. I was on hold for at least 15 min. Hope this helps for those of you with Stealths. Mitsu. people will have to go through Mitu. dealers or course.

Do I have to bring my whole car in to have the transfer case checked out? I have two transfer cases covered in fluid but Ive already taken them out of my cars and Im not sure if I should make the effort to get the recall.

I just recently took my '95 VR4 to the dealership (need a complete rebuild -> spun 4th bearing), and they told me that there was a recall on the xfer case. Since I decided to take the car to be rebuilt at 3sxperformance instead, they held off on doing the recall, but told me to bring the car back when the rebuilt was done and they would do the xfer case recall (they just didn't want to do it, if I was going to end up scrapping the car or something). I can verify that the factory should know about the recall. Also they shouldn't need your car long to do it. The mechanic said to just call and make an appointment, and that it can be done the same day!
