also, does it leak at all?
I just looked under the car about twenty min ago, and didnt see anything leaking, but the last thing i want is for my stuff to lock up at 100+.... I would be very suprised if it had been replaced, it was owned by a 70-something year old lady who used it as a sunday driver, the car is barely broken in.
what can I do, the only two dealers within a 100 mile radius both said that there were never recalls, or that my vehicle wasnt effected by it...
Re: Transfer Case Recall - IMPORTANT, Pleas Read!!!!
first off, get under your car, putt out the 14mm level plug on the side of the xfer case by the down pipe. if no oil drips out, its probably low on oil. Also chekc if the whole thing is black from oil mixing w/ dirt, that would be considered proof that it was leaking.
Call corporate mitsu, the number is in this thread somewhere and tell them that you local dealers are not being cooperating in performing you SAFETY recall and they clain they show no recall. also have you vin handy and the recall number from this thread.
Its weird that they don't have one for mitsubishi, dodge has a website where you can punch in your vin and it will pull up all the recalls. I did that for mine.
If your xfer case is clean, oil comes out when you pull the plug and there is no sign of leakage, then maybe the recall was performed and maybe the dealer doesn't see it because its listed as completed.

Will do, and will update. Also, when i talked to both dealers, I asked them if it said that it has already been complted, and they said no, nothing has been done recall wise, because there were no recalls... so..
Ill check into the case, probably tomorrow morning, but as far as BOTH dealers say, there are no recalls... Which is really trowing me off because i know there are. This means I could still have the bad brake lines!
Re: Transfer Case Recall - IMPORTANT, Pleas Read!!!!
If anyone is willing to awnser. I checked on the dodge website with my vin and it says that there is no incomplete recalls on my 1995 rttt. Saying that I checked under my car and it looks like the transfer case has been siliconed around it. Just wondering if this is how the recall is fixed? I say that cuz I can see small amount of oil around the bottem where they siliconed. Should I be getting the recall done again, or will they not do it seeming that it shows no incomplete recalls?
Re: Transfer Case Recall - IMPORTANT, Pleas Read!!!!
I know when I first went through this thread, someone had a way of telling (VIA some type of database??) weather or not the recalls have been done. I know I posted earlier about the dealers saying that there were no recalls on these cars at all, but now its almost winter time, which means time to go under the knife...
Does anyone know a way to check what has been done with my specific car, becuase the dealers are driving me crazy. They keep saying that there are no open recalls on the car, and none were ever done to my car, and that maybe my car fell under 'a small few that didnt need the recall' ...
Any ideas of other ways to check this?
EDIT: When I tried to call MITSU corp. i was sent to an automated system that after years of talking to different people led me to an answering machine.... So thats just me running into a brick wall again and again because i never hear back and i keep getting sent to the 'answering machine'
Re: Transfer Case Recall - IMPORTANT, Pleas Read!!!!
Wow so I talked to corporate and they said NO recall for my VIN. I told them BS cuz other 99's have it and my damn t-case just went out this week. I'm freaking furious now.

Ouch man that sucks.
I got my hands full too. My transfer case is about to lock up. When I had it out a few months ago I could move the tailshaft 1/2" side to side (3rd stage of recall - bearing failure, then the 4th, lockup) not to mention the input sleeve is nearly stripped. I had the recall done years ago and they told me its fine and not leaking.
I want to bring it back for a "re-inpection" but worried they'll deny me because there is Redline fluid in it and I have a pst carbon fiber driveshaft. what do you guys think? Can they decline the recall because of that?
Re: Transfer Case Recall - IMPORTANT, Pleas Read!!!!
Thats all Bull S**t you guys. I used to blend motor oil for years professionally and as long as the oil has the API doughnut on it you should be fine. As I remember Red Line could never get American Petroleum Institute( API)to endorse them as they were not using approved base oils. Not sure if they ever did or not cause i don't buy it. I was never impressed with it in the lab. But not looking at a mandatory recall is bullsh** and there is a number to call for complaints regarding recalls that concern safety. Do a google search or search on here for that number and the recall reference number. I know once it has been rendered OK and operable they are no longer responsible to look at it again. Also having a CF drive shaft makes no difference as I too have one and they never even noticed it nor said a thing about it. I always recommend making a friend out of your Mits. mechanic and service dept. They can help in a lot of ways. They get reimbursed by the main office of Mitsubishi for performing those tasks. I cant see why they wont. It may be they are not aware of the recall. So find it and point it out to them. It should be on the computer here through search and on a recall list that they should have with the recall number. Your VIN will tell them if the recall was ever done and I know its one recall per VIN but I always wondered if another recall was in order if a person got a new tranny and transfer case like me and it was from bought and installed by a Mitsubishi service dept.

hmmm, i got a similar run though... really, every time i called they said their "reps hadn't gotten back to them yet...yada bahhbah.."
i should really consider giving them a call back.. before the cold hit, i was dealing with my leaky transfer case.. on and off, replace gaskets, reseal.. i tried to take her to a mitsubishi. free parts! hollahollaholla!!after arriving home from stl. TWO hours away; i jacked the car up to find that the drain plug to the tcase was gone.
i'm glad i was doing 100 or so on the way back. i don't know why but i trust my vr4 more than i trust most people. at least when she'll actually run
