So I called the dealership back and tried talking to the manager to get my car fixed. I was told that I would have to pay for them to diagnose the leak, then if it was the recall problem, I could call Chrysler and they might authorize the recall repair. Even if they did I would be responsible for the diagnostic.
Are the driveshaft seal and output shaft seal the only seals in the transfer case? Those seals are readily available for about $30. I'd rather pay my normal shop $70 to fix the problem than pay dodge 70 to diagnose it, and then not know if they'll pay for the repair.

Update, with good news! I called Chrysler at the number posted a few pages back. They confirmed that this should be redone as many times as necessary, and called the dealership to correct them. They got my car right in, confirmed the leak, and I'm getting a new transfer case! I'm sooooo glad I didn't just try to half ass fix this, and took the time to call Chrysler. I spent 45 minutes on hold before I got through to anyone, but for a $1500 TC, it was well worth it!

Hey, was alittle confused, so i thought id ask just to clear it up, but according to the NHTSA, they have to replace the t-case regardless of condition? is this the case, or is it just if its damaged? Because there is nothing wrong with the one i have, i mean that i know of. I leave an absorbant mat underneath the t-case are and so far there hasnt been any oil leaked onto it, but thats not to say its not happening when im on the road. So i was wondering if this meant i can have it replaced anyway, because i want to be completely and utterly sure. if any one can confirm or has info contrary to this, please let me know.

I don't really feel like reading through all of the previous posts... So anyways I took my car in to Bankston Dodge here in Irving, TX and they looked up the recalls and said that they would only have to replace the seals on the transfer case and not the actual case itself... I thought it was the whole t-case..... Also they mentioned something about the brake lines or something... I suppose those might be somewhat important
Also there is another dealership Lewisville Mitsubishi that I haven't checked out yet I think I will go there..... But so what exactly should I do or whatever??????? Both dealers are right by my school and transportation is no problem so should I just take it in and have it fixed completely taken apart and everything?? And what are some things that I can refer to if they try and b/s me???? Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks....

Well, the input that I've experienced twice & the word around the board is that each dealer can use their own discression as to either replace the whole unit or fix it. I've had mine fixxed twice. First time was for the new seals. The 2nd time was because I was checking the fluid level one day and noticed they had mis-threaded the fill plug.
So, my suggestion is, if it's leaking and they just want to fix it, let 'em. |

Hey guys,
I'm in the middle of a doing a rebuild (myself) right now due to a spun bearing. When I originally hobbled my car in to my mechanic(i actually made it there during the bearing failure) , my mechanic noticed after dropping the t-case and oil pan, the TC was rusted and had some worn splines(i'm assuming from insufficient lubrication, ie leaking seals) and it did not look very good. I have a couple questions. How should I approach the dealer about my t-case? I mean, I don't really want to put the crappy TC back on the car after a fresh rebuild--I don't want to screw up anything, ie, new tranny. Furthermore, Do you feel that I might be reimbursed for a stripped OP shaft (which I have to replace during the rebuild) --caused by a crappy t-case? Thanks, Kevin
