I didnt realise you could still get recall work done on such an old car......does anyone know if this is still applicable to car's in the UK and if so, will they also do imports ie my 1992 GTO tt??

Right, email sent to the service department of my local Mitsy dealership....I can hear the grown's and head banging against the wall sounds from them already But tbh if they have any sense about them they will try their best to do something for me and my 17yr old import........I work for a Vauxhall dealership over here, and we've currently got a safety recall out on a old model going back ten years. As a result we're seeing car's that havnt been near a main dealer in many year's coming back through our doors. So we're getting paid by vauxhall to carry out the rework but we're also selling up on other work found on the vehicle whilst on our ramps.....and with the motortrade being quiet at present this is good for us and very much welcomed

So my car has already done a transfercase recall, and mine just went bad a few days ago. My girlfriends dad said it's bad, but didn't know how bad. It makes a clunking/grinding kind of noise upon launch, the dealer said they prolly can't fix it via recall.

Do they still have to fix it since it's already been done? It was done back is 2004.

Looking forward to an answer.

Thanks

Yes they have to fix it assuming it is due to just being a bad transfer case.

What service did they do? replace the seals or whole new one

Regards mine....Ive had an email back from my local dealership requesting my vehicles details so they can process a recall enquiry with Mitsubishi in Japan to see what work if any is out standing on my vehicle. So at least it wasnt a instant fob-off, eh? They said once they've sent off my details it can take up to a week to get the information back.

Having looked at my transfer case, it doesnt look to have ever been replaced ie its age seems to match all surrounding componants. It certainly hasnt been changed in the last 8yrs as Ive known the car for that period...plus it only came to the UK in late 1998. Anyhows....suppose I'll just wait and see now

what do you need to say to the dealer to get your new case. mine is leaky and shitty, and sadly the dealership made it worse... they said they were trying to talk to their reps like a month ago, and i still haven't heard back from them, other than when i call them

thanks yo!

I emailed the service manager of my local dealership. I made it obvious in the email that I was fully aware that it was a known fault not just at home but across the globe. I also mentioned that I was aware of the recalls still on going in canada and america....I also mentioned on several occassions that it was a safety critical item and then insted of demanding that they inspect the car etc I asked for their advice as to what I should do next ie I gently placed the ball in their court to give them the first shot. It seems to have worked so far, as in their first email back suggests they are looking into it....so I'll just sit here with my fingers crossed. The reason I mentioned all those bits in my email is it shows Im already educated my self with the recall so it gives them less chances to fob me off.

I work for Vauxhall (UK GM), I did a little probing today amongst the higher members of managment (I dont mind asking questions to managers...like to keep them on their toes lol) with the question "how long is a manufacturer bound to their product with regards a safety issue?"...the two I asked both replied along the lines of 'if its a known manufacturing fault, then forever/until its sorted'......I presume this carries across all marques as they can only really speak for our own brand (we're currently recalling Astra's going back to 1998 due to a corrosion issue on front subframes, so I know we stick to that line of thought)?

The seals were replaced. A different dealership said if it's blown past resealing repair, then Crysler will issue a new one. He said he couldn't legally say that they'll do it for sure over the phone, but he said bringing it in will resolve the issue.

I'm so f-ing happy I found this thread.

Update:

Just dropped off my Stealth at a dealership this morning. They printed out the recall papers and such, I got a copy of the actual recall details, I'll scan it in and post it so it will clarify for some people exactly what is intailed.

Assuming the t-case gears are trashed, and / or the t-case is cracked, they will replace the t-case with a new one on recall.

I'm just hoping they can get a t-case for my car without issues... It's hard to threaten Chrysler when they're already having trouble staying in business... So we'll see.

I'll keep everyone up-to-date.
