They are lying, plain and simple. Call them again, tell them if they don't do the recall and it locks up on you while you are on the highway, you are going to bring up legal action against them because they refused to do it.

i think im screwed into a corner on this one. like i said, i have a 25-spline in my 91 (a rebuilt trans and tcase). diamler/chrysler said the recall cant be done due to that (though when i called mitsu america, they said it would still be eligible). now i called the place that i bought the tcase from and they said that all i need to do it check and possibly replace the seal.

if the tcase is "whirring" while accelerating and "grinding" on decel, is that possibly just due to there not being fluid? there have only been 6 miles put on the car since i started hearing the noise...5 miles from the highway to my house and 1 mile to the dealership, but that was after driving 15 miles on the highway.

the leak started last saturday sometime between driving 15 miles to the ohio meet and 15 miles back.

im lost, can anyone point me in the right direction?

The recall applies to all years. They are lying and just dont want to do the free work to fix it. Tell them you will bring up legal action against that specific dealer if it ends up locking up doing a shit ton of damage to the trans and potentially your car.

Call up the dealer, tell them you want the recall done. Keep calling till they say they will do it.

i called daimler-chrysler after the dealer told me no, and they said since its a new transmission (25 spline instead of the original 18 spline) and that the recall isnt vaild because of that. the place i bought the trans/tcase from is sending me a new seal so ill pop that in and see what happens, but im still worried about the clunk in the trans when sitting at a stop and going into 1st or reverse. (plus the whirr/grind in the tcase)

the dodge dealership said there was still plenty of fluid in the tcase though (hopefully no internal damage) so ill see where i am once i replace the seal.

anyone take a stealth to a mitsu dealer? mitsu america said that the recall could still be done but chrysler said no.

I had mine done by a dodge dealer, but thats only because the owner of the dealer also had a mitsu dealer and they said just to take there instead.

It shouldn't matter if you have a 25 spline trans, because ALL of the TC leak, and the recall applies to all years, all AWD transmissions.

The transmission I have in my car is not the original, it was replaced at some point, probably the same time the engine was rebuilt (I don't have the records, I didn't even figure it out till I pulled the trans the first time), and the dealer still did the recall.

I have since done a 25 spline conversion (used my 18 spline, put a new bellhousing on it), and I will do it myself from now on, just because I don't want to deal with stupid dealer service people and them telling me there is no recall blah blah blah.

anyone with a 91 that has a 25-spline that they upgraded to please chime in if you were able to get the recall on the newer transmission

im taking the car back to ips to start off since they did the install and hopefully they can work through the company i bought it from and sort things out. right now im thinking about just selling it and getting a ricer and a bike, but ive invested way too much to take that route...i may just get a tcase off of here but i doubt that will solve the "clunk" (almost sounds like an old fire alarm bell) in the transmission

To keep everyone updated! Dodge has released more transfer cases a couple months ago... ive checked recently if there were any available and there is still alot left... find the right dealership that will order them for you... i have 2 transfer cases right now if anyone wants them... they are the old ones... little leaks... but like i said Dodge has released more TC.... look at my previous post to find the recall numbers.... (make your current Tcase is bad tho... they will inspect it and more then likely do a reseal kit... im a tech for dodge... its the only reason i got a new tcase...)
