Colt45, I don't think so. It's a NHTSA safety recall, NHTSA is the National Highway & Transportation Safety Agency (or something like that) and the nation it's referring to is the United States. There may be recalls in other countries... if youc an't find any info here check on gtouk

Hi there!

Got 1994 Mitsubishi VR4 recently, and a new member here (at forum).

I've read this topic, not all of the pages, but can someone tell me if this recall is valid for the cars, that got Salvage ertificate in US, but now are in other country?

I mean, here where I live this Salvage sertificate doesn't "work" and the car is Run & Drive. (insurance company send this car to salvage yard).

Are local representatives from Mitsubishi obliged to perform this recall on this particular car or/and will they refuse cause of Salvage Sertificate?

Digitally yours,
ParabelluM

Hey, I don't think a salvaged title will make a difference. Reason is, the dealership pulls the cars VIN number to see if the recall has been done. Salvaged or not, shouldn't matter. Although some of the members residing outside the US have had a few problems getting Mitsubishi to perform the recall, they should do it with out question. Best thing to do, don't mention the title status if they don't ask. Go down to the dealer, or call them with your VIN number and have them check.

what if we had the recall done because it locked up, they fixed it, and 27,000 miles later it locks up again because of the same problem? i called and asked and they said that they couldnt do anything because it has been over 12,000 miles/1 year and the warranty for the recalled part has expired. do i have any fighting power?

I don't know but my guess is that they need to replace it. It doesn't make sense that there's a recall on a TC case that my have 70,000 miles on it or more but the replacement fails with 27,000 and they're off the hook.
As far as fighting power, I don't know where you could go for help.

The ongoing saga of the TC. During a rebuild of my engine a few years ago, with official recall papers in hand, I brought in my TC and tranny to Biondi Mitsu in Pittsburgh to have them look at the extensive wear in the TC and the worn splines on the tranny jack shaft. They wouldn't even look at it, saying it had to be INSTALLED in the car! How ludicrous! So we put it all back together and I continued to drive without noticing any problems, although aware it could go at any time.
This June, with slippage evident, I replaced the clutch with a new LUK, then called and made an appointment with South Park Mitsu for the recall. After having it a couple of days, they called me and said I needed a new clutch!! HUH?!? Talk about incompetence! I told them it was replaced 100 miles ago and I knew there was an obvious problem with the TC. Couple days later, they called and said it was a tranny problem due to TOO MUCH TORQUE!! Right, the stock engine was always way over designed for the rest of the drive train! Sure!
Anyway, they refused to repair anything under the recall. I called Mitsu at their 888 number and got the same kind of run around, even when I suggested I might be forced to take legal action. They could give a shit.
I would much rather drive the car than keep it sitting around just for its' aesthetic appeal, so now I have to find the parts.
Can anyone suggest a source for necessary TC innards as well as a tranny jack shaft? I don't want to take a second mortgage to do it!
Thanks for any help. I can also be reached at neoncow@comcast.net
