Default Re: Transfer Case Officially Recalled

all recalls are covered for life I found this out from an open source. My transfer case locked up and broke the output shaft! and was not too happy about that either so I already had it recalled once and well lets just say no matter what if you have proof of the transfer case going bad they will replace it for as long as you want to keep the car. No exceptions!

Angry Re: Transfer Case Officially Recalled

Is the recall global or is it only in America? I´m asking this because I recently replaced my Transfer Case and it wasn´t cheap to replace... So I asked about the recall from Mitsubishi importer here in Finland, he told me that the recall is only for USA and cars in Europe is not under recall. I highly doubt that.

This is probably not that useful. But I vague recall someone from Scandanavia who got their recall done on a stealth at a chrysler dealership. Maybe if you start a new thread in the international forum you'll catch his attention, or at least someone who's looked into it in Europe... Even that doesn't work, maybe try gtouk forums.

edit: I think it was Bender from Norway who got his Stealth covered.

Hey guys, i think my transfer case is leaking, is this recall true? So I can just take my car to the mitsubishi dealer and they would replace for me at no cost? I would really want to get this fix.

They will either fix the leak or replace the case. Yes, I've had it done twice when I had my 91.

Good idea to check if it is a listed vehicle..go to the manufacturer's site_ Chrysler or mitsu and enter your VIN.

I found this reply from "issue9mm" on page 57 of this thread I thought it might be usefull.

type in or cut paste the NHTSA address in your browser
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/p...lls/results.cfm
enter your vehicle info and it will display the recalls for your vehicle althought I did not see the seat belt recall it did list the TC and Break line hydraulic recall for my 94 VR4.

note: after your browser displays the recalls for your vehicle note the "document search" click box at the bottom of the specific recall, good information there in pdf format. Specifically number 4 on that document list is "RCRIT-02V143-3232.PDF -- Remedy Instructions and TSB ( 2393.29 KB). Notice the dicrepancy between "repair summary" where it states if 1) TC is not leaking replace fluid 2) If leaking reseal 3) if case is cracked or internal gear damage replace TC. the discrepancy is under "Procedures" step 2 states "if you are replacing the TC case because of damage wear or binding" My question is how can they determine if the TC is damaged worn or binding unless it is disassembled ? Hummm ... looks like a contention for replacement could be if its worn, guys Im not a lawyer but there seems to be something here that you might be able to use to leverage the service manager to see it your way.

Thanks issue9mm for your initial post

Call this old news if you like, but I searched and didn't see it posted anywhere... the recall number for the transfer case issue is 02V143001.

I found this information at the following NHTSA link:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/p...lls/results.cfm

I have not heard of anyone here in Scandinavia that got their TC replaced through the recall..
