Just bring it do the dealership. You donīt need a number. They absolutely have to check it anyway, and they further need to check if the car has had the recall done already so donīt worry about the number. But you do need to insist on a new TC and not a fix. Tell them that you hear whirling and grinding sounds and make it sound bad.

My 93TT is going in next week for a rebuild or replacement of the transfer case. They checked it and oil is literally pouring out of it. I talked to the mechanic and he told me that he'd do everything possible to get me a new unit but they were very strict on the replacement of it. Some gear or something has to be damaged in order for them to have to replace it. I'm going to try to slip him a 50 or something and have him chip one of the gears. I want a new transfer case, not my current one rebuilt.

The wierd thing is that I was told that it's the same TC case, that is, no improvements to eliminate or avaoid the problem from recurring. Is that true? And if it is true, if the problem recurs, is it still a warrantee issue, or one replacement and you're done? |
