Hey guys!
The transfer case recall is listed as for having any abnormal leaks by the seals or if the drain plug has come loose. It is the mechanics duty to check for any fluid leaking from ANY of the sealed area's from the transfer case! Many of the DODGE mechanics feal that these cars are WAAAAAAY to hard to work on and WILL give them a quick lookover and get them the hell out of their bay! I know as I was a service writer at one of the larger dealers in my town. When the mechanics looked at my tc they saw nothing abnormal with the unit. Well, I was quick to get under the car myself and found fluid had indeed been leaking from inside the belhousing area from the input shaft! HMMMMMM! I was not very happy! It got worse!!! As many of you don't know, When the fluid leakes out the bearings scrap themselves in short order! Then they place and overload on the input shaft - Destroying the splines in the process. It is not easy to detect the leaking input shaft seal somtimes because it will mix with the clutch dust and become suspended in it and not readily leak like it should. Dodge replaced the tc ONLY because the district service rep was clueless as to how the damage all took place. NICE!!!! I found a newer 25 spline trans with a busted case and swaped parts and reinstalled. Now it works great!! ![]() |

thanks. I ended up looking that stuff up early this morning and faxing it to him. He said he misread whatever said that it had been taken care of in 2000, it was really 2003 (which still couldnt be right?) anyway, if someone actually had fixed it in 2003... it's screwed up again. He said that he would have to hold my car there for several days while he looks at it and figures out whats wrong.... and that dealership is 70 min from me
I have to drive to Humboldt on saturday so i'm picking up my car friday whether it's done or not. Grr. Not having a car sucks. |

I got to page 15...then i got so confused.
Heres my question: I'm buying my 94 vr-4. If the t-case isn't leaking and its fine can i still have them fix it? What will they fix? Do they replace the whole t-case? Is the recall still going on (i'm guessing so). Thanks Nate.

Do you know if the previous owner had the t-case recall completed or not. The dealer will know when they run your vin number. |
