I agree with what you're saying, JRC, but the legalities of liability are tricky. If it's a design flaw, how come there is no replacement on those units (like mine) that aren't leaking? After 160K miles, most cars are leaking in lots of places. Unfortuneately, as it turns out, the transfer case on our Stealth wasn't leaking, so they changed the oil to their brand of synthetic and wash their hands of any responsibility. So if it starts leaking now, it's not a design flaw anymore, just normal wear? WTF! A few phone calls and a letter or two might get a "modded" transfer case worked on under the recall, but they probably don't have legal responsibility to do so. Worth a try, though. Good luck BCTURBO!

Now, if they do not replace the seals because they feel they are not leaking, they are just delaying something that could still happen. Changing the fluid does nothing to prevent the seals from leaking. The reason they are changing the seals is due to the fact of the liability of a locked up transfer case causing you to lose control. If it starts leaking even after the seals have been replaced and the transfer case still locks up, they have not rid themselves of the liability. Had they built the transfer case weaker where it would just self destruct instead of locking up the rear wheels, they would be facing less liability. Then they could just blame you for not watching fluid levels when evidence of leaking occured from normal wear and tear. The key words to me in their wording of the recall are "could cause the driver to lose control and have an accident if the transfer case locks up" This to me is the reason behind the recall. The seals are a possible fix for them. Even if they do the recall and the transfer case leaks and still locks up they still have liability.

I was told by my dealer that they will do the recall on my 92 TT, but since it came with a 5 speed they can only clamed a 5 speed with my serial #. So I would lose the 6 speeds and they’ll give me a bran new 5 speeds T-case, but I have a 6 speeds tranny!
I’m waiting for my new recall to come in before going to an other Dodge dealer. I called the place where I got my 6 speeds from and they gave me the serial # of that 94 TT. I went to Dodge online and registered the 94 as being mine! So now I’m waiting for that 1994 recall to come in. When I went to the dealer they never check the serial # on the car, only the one on the recall car that I got by the mail. So if the next dealer does the same thing, I’ll have a 94 t-case for my 92. You just need to find a place where they don’t know the difference between 1 & 2 gen.

You know what, Mitsu/Chrysler are nothing but a bunch of pricks. You call customer service for Chrysler they have no idea what you are talking about and there's "nothing you could do". Bullshit, I took it to another dealer and he agrees with me that the transfer case had to seize up in order for the output shaft and my trans to take a dump. And can you believe the fact. rep said hell no?! Bullshit I got the number to some higher ups and am in contact. I'm not gonna get shafted by something that's not my fault at all. And to think this all started with me pulling away from a stop sign.

VIVA LAS VEGAS!!
|
Hey guys, I was looking at my Recall Notice and noticed that DiamlerChrysler's Customer Assistance Center is located in SAINT CHARLES, MISSOURI.
Guess what? That's a suburb of SAINT LOUIS... Home of NG03! Wonder if we should all take a drive over there and stage a big protest on behalf of all the people screwed over on reimbursements and recall claims?? LOL

Call this old news if you like, but I searched and didn't see it posted anywhere... the recall number for the transfer case issue is 02V143001.
I found this information at the following NHTSA link: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...ls/results.cfm -9mm- |
