I'm currenty facing the modified issue myself, as my local dealer wants to charge me 80 bucks because I have a modified exhaust, and it's now harder to remove. I told them, I'm not paying for $hit and for them to contact Mitsu, or I will. I'm currently awaiting an answer, meanwhile my baby is chilling on a lift.

I called the local Dodge dealer and asked about the recall. They never heard of it, but when they checked my VIN, they said, "your car has not had the front brake line and transfer case recall services performed..." They didn't have the tools to do the tranfer case (small town:no Stealths) but referred me to a huge dealer in Benton, AR (Landers). I called them, and they said, "sure, bring it in today or whenever." So I took it in. What they did was replace the front brake lines: said they found some leaking, though I hadn't noticed any. As for the transfer case, all they did was dump out my fresh Redline
and put in their own brand, but the service mgr. said it was fully synthetic rather than what it came with in '92. No new seals, no new transfer case. But then, its not leaking, even after 160K. Oh, well, I guess I'm not getting a new TC, but service was free, and they didn't bitch about my mods either. I had just finished insulating the driver's side IC pipe, and putting in an insulated intake box, plus the mods in my sig. I did cap the cut-out before they got it, though Anyway, the recall is for real. Lots o' Luck!

I’ve told my dealer that I have a 94 tranny & transfer in my 92 and the reason Y!
At the time that my 5 speeds needed to be rebuilt, the output shaft was on “BO” and the parts for the 6 speeds were all available. The service manager accepted my explication and will do the first check up on the Tcase, witch is check for oil leak and change the fluid. My Tcase is leaking even do I installed new seal last summer when I did the conversion. The Teflon seal are so hard, they end up wearing out the shaft!!! I’m going in tomorrow at 4:00 pm, I’ll let you know the out come.

For all of you who have not received the recall notice from Daimler Chrysler they may not have you in their database. I just called 1-800-853-1403 and stayed on the line and told them my name and address for mine as they did not have anyone listed for my VIN, hence the reason why I didn't get a recall notice. They go out every 6 months so if you call and let them know you own the car you should get the notice next time they go out. For service before then he says any dealership you go to should have the recall in their database from entering your VIN.
If you go to a dealership and they say they know nothing about it, give them the 800 number and tell them they need to go and find out about it then. Also, someone mentioned in this thread or the other about the dealer wanting to charge $80 to remove the transfer case because he had a modified exhaust. Assuming he had a downpipe which most people do, they are exactly the same bolt up as a stock downpipe which do rust out occasionally, so tell them bull crap, there is no difference in removal procedures and if you have to contact home office to do their job it will reflect badly on their service department but they shouldn't put it past you to do it.

At the bottom of my recall notice, It says that if you have already had work done due to the same circumstances as the recall, Mitsubishi will reimburse you.
Does this mean you had to have Mitsu do the work, or is all you have to do is produce a receipt showing you replaced it? I just bought a new trans and transfer case two months ago. I know they wont pick up the cost of the trans, but maybe they will pick up the cost of the transfer case? Worth a shot.
