Yes, the '91 has a separate (dated 08/93) recall, but the new recall (dated 06/23/2002) will supercede the old recall. Now it is just up to Mitsubishi and their lawyers.

Just an update--
I called the DOT complaint line and have received my form "Vehicle Owner's Questionnaire" to submit my safety complaint. It is already preprinted with my info, so I'm in their data base, and now all I do is put, in writing, the safety issues and what has happened. The cover letter said they will share the info with Mitz and use it, with other owners with similiar problems, to develop investigatory evidence regarding our cars.
Just another step, but maybe we are getting somewhere.

I got mine in the mail on Sat. too. Personally I think every member should take the 5 minutes and call for the form (which is already filled out with your info) and file a complaint. Maybe, just maybe it might put some motivation into Mitsubishi.

Default my 2 cents from down-under

here's my 2 cents ... Maybe if they recive complaints from all over the world, they might move quicker ... I will try and get the European community involved too (http://www.gtouk.com) ...

I prompted Mitsubishi this morning that they are overdue on this and two other items also. There is a 10 year limit for us to force them to do the fix BUT with an overseas recall setting the precedent they would have difficulty calling a halt at half way through the range based on age.

You complaint has been lodged from the start.

Ross

Ross,

I have some question:

1. Is there any news from Mitsu? Do they have a time limit to provide a solution for the recall? If so, is it possible for me to lodge a complaint against Mitsubishi Australia?

2. Also, what is the current law regarding recalls in Australia? I gather that in the USA, cars older than 10 years are NOT covered by recalls. Do we have a simular law here?

Thank you very much for your time and help so far.

Kind Regards
Steve

Ya know, this whole thing is just fucking insane. The NHTSA issues a recall for our cars, THAT SHOULD BE CASE FUCKING CLOSED. We should be able to go to a Mitsu dealership, give them the recall#, and should be given a new transfer case. What in the hell is the point of even issuing a recall in the first place if Mitsu is just going to ignore it?
NHTSA should give Mitsu 30 days, then begin leveling HEAVY fines for every additional 30 days in which they don't act. This whole business is just extremely annoying and pisses me off to no end.
