Dealer put her on a lift and let me walk & talk with the mechanic. My transfer case is seeping VERY slowly and had a LOT of fluid left inside. I'll wait for the recall for that. But here's the interesting part.
I also have a (nearly identical) leak at the differential case. I remembered AAM putting redline fluids in (at my request) for the 60k tuneup. I had them drained out and here's what the Mitsu dealer filled the cases with: Diff: Diaqueen LSD Gear Oil SAE 90w Transfer: Diamond Gear Lube 75w-85w Those are the markings. Diff fluid came in a white can with red lettering. Transfer fluid came in black bucket with a handle. SOOOOooo ... I'm going to monitor BOTH cases with the OEM fluids inside. The mechanic cleaned both cases outside with brake cleaner so we can see where it's seeping from. Now can someone please explain why all of a sudden, driving home, my car seems to drive smoother than ever before? Those two cases & the fluids inside should NOT affect that right? I don't know if it was "shifting" smoother but it seemed to pickup & move out like it was greased up & lit on fire all of a sudden! |

ok, so I see oil accumlating in my parking spot, take it to the Santa Monica Mitsu dealership.........
part of the leak is from the oil plug, filter, and oil cap o- ring, so for $36 they replace those parts and do an oil change........ BUT they also find that I am leaking oil form the TC and the transmission, i ask them about the recall, he does a Service Vehicle inquiry and finds no Open Recalls so I ask him about the leak. Parts for the TC would be $3500-4000 and around $600 for labor for my 1993 vr-4 what is the deal with the recall???????????? within the next month or so??? i am in college and have no where near that much to spend on repairing my vehicle, plus a lock up could be hazardous to my car, myself, and othrs on the road. Any information, including a number for the Mitsu corporate office would be greatly appreciated....as I am somewhat worried abourt this whole issue is this recall official for ANY vr-4, has someone had this done, is it only 91's?????? sorry for so many questions, just got back from the dealership 1 hour ago Thanks, Jules

The guy at the Santa Monica dealership said that the transfer case and transmission would have to be replaced to fix the oil leaks...........
how much is just the transfer case replacement?? he didn't even tell me if the fluids were topped off, can a jiffy lube check this, and how long is a long time berfore checking, 2 weeks, 3? late |

Spank me, I'm Swedish.

Do any of you know the name (and/or phone number) of any 'high ranked' Mitsubishi US guy/gal that knows of this recall 'coming in a month'?
You see, I'm in Europe (Sweden, to be exact) and we have had our share of 4-wheel lock-ups - most recently a poor guy swiveled off the road and broke his neck (he's okay though). I know of at least 4 accidents the last year alone and considering there's but a hundred 3000GT's in this country it's quite staggering. Anyway, I called Mitsubishi Sweden and they did not know anything about any TC/transmission problems and claimed to never have heard a Swedish one being involved in such a mishap. I finally managed to get them to agree to call Mitsu US but I am trying to cover all bases here. I did point them to the recall-notice on the NHTSA website although they seemed inclined to believe that this was a US-only problem. Doh. If I had a person to direct them to, should they fail to realize the problem is universal, I'd be more than happy. (Obviously I have other means of getting the European Mitsu's to take action - afterall Sweden is the home of the word 'ombudsman'... ![]() TIA, Pez
