Default oil leak

I saw in your posts that the stealth rt/TT tranfer cases are recalled. Just to make sure, the recall deosn't include Stealth ES. I have a '92 Stealth ES and I have an oil leak. I had a amateur tire guy mechanic take a quick look at the oil leak. He thinks it may an oil pan gasket leak. He said it would cost about $120. I called the dealer and he said it would cost $300 just in labor and that they don't make the part anymore so they would stick silicone in there.

Any thoughts about the leak and is the ES part of the recall?

The ES does not have a transfer case.

Only the AWD 3s's have transfercases.... as far as the oil pan gasket.... the 3s's NEVER came with an oilpan gasket, it was sealed from the FACTORY with RTV (silicon sealant, kinda like caulk if you are familiar with it). It can be purchased at ANY automotive store, and it is a little labor intensive, but I couldnt see it being 300$ worth, altho im not really sure how many hours on the books it is to pull oil pan.... odds are the seal around your oil pan and block isnt leaking.... your drain plug could be leaking (highly unlikely) more than likely it is your rear main seal. its a 20$ part, but very labor intensive (need to drop tranny and pull flywheel to be able to change it) how bad does it leak?

I dont know if they were trying to just say that to save them work or what this is bullshit, they should all have the same seals! Dood, can you explain this better? I have a 1995 VR4, and I called the same place this past monday. They said they had absolutely NO knowledge of a recall on the TC. Can you please explain what you meant in your post and what they said to you exactly? Thanks.
indeed, eventhough 1st gens are 91-93, after 91, some changes were made to the 92's and 93's. The 92s and 93s SHOULD be the same gaskets, 94 and newer (second gen) probably arent giong to be, being with the 2nd gen, the transfercase was completely redesigned by getrag

"Nick, I don't think that's the same Lou Fusz that's here on Manchester. I have their number memorized b/c I'm in there so often. 391-5700. I was just in there a few weeks ago talking to everyone (they all know who I am there) and they didn't say anything about it. And they know I need a new TC, they tried to get the warranty company to give me one when they replaced the transmission. That must have been the Lou Fusz in St. Peters off I-70."

Ahh Surgeon, thanks for clearing that up. Yeah, I'm talking about the Fusz on Manchester. They have absolutely NO knowledge of the recall. Oh well, my case actually isn't leaking in the least anyways. Wierd huh?

My mmitsu dealer still has no idea of a recall... Someone said a while ago that it would take a long time for anything to happen..... So, I don't think a recall will happen for a while yet. They are still researching or something like that....

This is the first time I've looked at this thread in a while, though...

Question Would leak be indicated like this?

SMALL pics attached - you can see the fluid glistening. I saw this as I changed my oil today and snapped a few pics. It's of what I hope I identified correctly as the transfer case -- near the oilpan and transmission at the front of my VR4. Consistency of the liquid coating was like really thin oil but grimey from being under the vehicle. Very light coating except where dirt had collected.

I'm posting to see if this indicates the leak the cases are now (or soon) recalled for? If so I'll know soon enough where the leak is. I cleaned it with vinegar/water in a windex spray bottle so I can watch where it leaks down from.

OH I also saw the following STAMPED on there after it was clean: "MBH 00307" -- any idea what that is ?

Default Pic 3 cleaned up & stamp visible

This is the same area as pic 1 but after cleaning you can see the stamp where it's marked - in case you guys want to check yours for comparison. I've circled the stamp in yellow since you probably can't read it in this pic.

jamb: that is definately your transfer case. Another way for you to quickly identify it on your vehicle is to follow where the driveshaft goes into towards the front of the car, it will go into the transfer case. It will kinda look like this ()<><> ... yes, i guess that does kinda look like a penis, but oh well. With the fluid, it will be a very thin oil-like substance... if you rub you fingers in it and then smell, it will smell really bad (ah, the wonderful smell of gear oil). Ok, after reading that last statement, that, as with my little diagram, look/sound sexually oriented, so i shall get some sleep tonight
