Take a look at my post two above yours. It explains what is going on. Don't expect any news until end of summer. I spoke to John yet again when he called me back to confirm that a solution still needs to be determined.

There is no point in calling Mitsubishi, Chrysler or Transport Canada for at least another month. There will be recall, but Mitsubishi has been granted a two month extension while they try to figure out the right way to fix the problem. Chyrsler won't have any info until Mitsubishi has made their determination.

The recall number quoted early is a Transport Canada number, and it won't mean anything to Chrysler or Mitsu. They will issue their own recall numbers when they are ready to do the work.

If your TC is leaking then get it topped up so it doesn't run out of fluid before the recall becomes final. The leaks are slow and will only lead to a failure if allowed to run dry.

Default Runaround...

Well, before I knew the recall had been put on hold, I was calling around to get info on getting it replaced... My Stealth's in the tranny shop, and they want to go ahead and re-seal the TC since it's actively leaking right now.

So naturally I say, whoa nelly... Lemme see if there's a recall... So I call a Dodge dealer, they say 'you need to call the dealer where you've had all your work at, since the history would show a recall if there was one.'

Fine, so I call the Mitsu dealer in town, and they say 'get out of town, we don't do recall work on Dodge's! You have to call Chrysler!'

So I called another Dodge dealer, their computers were down... So the last dealer I called, a Dodge dealer, said there was no recall at all. None pending, none active.

So this is interesting. Do I pay the $60 (+ labor) to have the TC sealed right now by the trans shop.. Then in the event that the recall does happen, accept that I probably won't qualify for a full replacement because some other shop did some work on the TC (thereby negating some sort of implied warranty)? And on top of that, still be out my $60+ ?

Default Top up the fluid and wait.

My car is in a tranny shop right now having the tranny rebuilt. They quoted $180 to reseal the transfer case. Knowing about the recall I told them to just make sure it was full of fluid. I'll live with the slow leak until the recall is announced.

If you pay for the reseal then you will very likely be out of luck for that cost, unless maybe they decide that the solution is exactly the same as the work you had done. Don't count on that.

Chrysler does not currently show anything about a recall, and they know nothing of it. They won't know until Mitsu determines what the fix is and issues the recall. The dealers don't know anything about this except perhaps for what they have been told by people accessing this board. No point in bugging them right now.

I doubt that you wouldn't qualify for the warranty repair because another shop worked on it, but on the other hand a full replacement is not necessarily what is going to happen anyway. They haven't committed to that or it would already be in process. However, you would probably just be wasting your money.

Top up the fluid and wait.

Good Luck.

All you need to do is make sure your TC is full of fluid at all times. And have your appropreate dealer put you and your car in their data base so they can contact you when they can do something about this. Nothing is going to happen until then. Period.

If you have a 91 year car listen to this. I worked at Dodge for 6 months. I have personally used their parts computors. There is no listing for a 91 Stealth of any kind. Turbo or NA. Everything matches up to the 92-93 years. Your car very well may have been sold in 91 and it may even say 91 on the door jam sticker but it is a 92 year model car. If it has all ready had a recall done to it then it was for the 92-93 year cars. (Which includes yours.) This new recall may or may not include your car. The only thing you can do is wait.

i called Lou FUSE mitsibishi at 636-970-4100 and they told me that the 92, 93, and 94 Vr4 had diffrent seals. And said mine cant be replaced. He said it depends on when mine was made. I dont know if they were trying to just say that to save them work or what this is bullshit, they should all have the same seals! And i should be able to get my T-case replaced if any one else does.....they are both 38,000dollar cars brand new!

Dood, can you explain this better? I have a 1995 VR4, and I called the same place this past monday. They said they had absolutely NO knowledge of a recall on the TC. Can you please explain what you meant in your post and what they said to you exactly? Thanks.

Nick, I don't think that's the same Lou Fusz that's here on Manchester. I have their number memorized b/c I'm in there so often. 391-5700. I was just in there a few weeks ago talking to everyone (they all know who I am there) and they didn't say anything about it. And they know I need a new TC, they tried to get the warranty company to give me one when they replaced the transmission. That must have been the Lou Fusz in St. Peters off I-70.
