I only searched on a '92. BTW I just called my local fuck-ups (opps I mean Mitusbishi dealer) and at first they said bring it in and they will fix it. But, when I asked exactly what they are going to do. They kinda gave me a run around then said that I had to wait until Mit. notified me before fixing the TC.

Lethal.

Question

I just called Huntington Beach Mitsu. and the new service manager there (litereally, as of 1 week) said he hadn't heard of it (obviously). He put me on hold and then came back and said that the recall depends on the last 8 digits of my VIN?? I was like, whatever.

So I gave him my last 8 and he said he'll call me back. This is going to be interesting.

Angry FUCK

HE TOLD ME MINE ISN'T ONE OF THE ONE'S THAT'S GOING TO BE RECALLED BECAUSE OF THE VIN!! WHAT A BUNCH OF FUCKING BULLSHIT!! IF IT LEAKS IT SHOULD BE RECALLED, PERIOD. THE VIN IS JUST A F'ING NUMBER.

IT LOOKS LIKE MITSUBISHI HAS DECIDED TO FUCK US ALL ONCE AGAIN. THEY MIGHT AS WELL HAVE US BEND OVER SO THAT THEY CAN SHOVE THE POS X-FER CASE UP OUR ASSES SIDEWAYS. WHAT A BUNCH OF FUCKING BS. I WISH I COULD GET AHOLD OF THE F'ING MORONS AT MITSUBISHI WHO ORGAINIZED THIS F'D UP "RECALL." I'LL BET YOU THEY DID SOME SORT OF COST ANALYSIS AND DECIDED TO ONLY RECALL XX AMOUNT OF THEM SO THAT THEY WOULDN'T LOSE TOO MUCH $$. I WANNA GET A HOLD OF THAT NHTSA GUY AND SEE WHAT HE HAS TO SAY ABOUT THIS SHIT. ALL OF THEIR X-FER CASES LEAK, MINE INCLUDED, THAT'S NO SECRET. HOW THE FUCK CAN THEY ISSUE THE RECALL BASED ON THE VIN #?!?! SHIT, I SWEAR TO GOD I'M GOING TO DRIVE OVER THERE AFTER WORK AND DUMP A QUART OF X-FER CASE OIL ALL OVER THEIR SERVICE MANAGERS DESK. WELCOME TO YOUR NEW JOB.

The new safety recall is for ALL vehicles, 1991-1999.
Are safety recalls issued by the manufacturer or the NHTSA ?

Matt, call the NHTSA about this and see what they have to say.

Cryptic80 - I too switched to Red Line and mine also leaked. That is why I am currently rebuilding mine. YOu don't have to rebuild yours. Just replace the seals. Not just the axles seals, but the case seals too. To replace the axle seals you just have to remove the TC and CVs to access the seals. To replace the case seals requires the transaxle to be removed. If you or anyone else are interested do a search for Update on 6-speed dissasembly. It is a post I started a while back and I have listed all you should need to know. I also encourage others to post their experiences to make this as painless and cheap as possible. I am going to go add some more of my experiences after I post this.

Matt -- HB Cali - Calm down man. Mistu uses the last 8 digits to tell if your car is a VR-4, SL, or base, model. As well as where it was assembled, what items are equiped on it, and as a general ID for service history. NHTSA can't make Mitsu or Dodge start a recall. All they do is report their findings on a subject. It is up to Mistu/Dodge to issue a recall. Dealers usually don't issue a recall for a fluid leak regaurdless of the possible outcomes. I have never even heard of one. I saw a technical service bulliten on power steering pump noise but that was it. Plus the number of cars with this TC are relitively small compaired to the number of other types of vehicles. Which means the chance of getting sued is lower. So they will be bastards and take their chances. Because someone is going to have to die, have relitives/lawyers who think this is a possible cause of death, and then take them to court AND win. I know it's wrong but it's out of our hands. I would encourage all of you to replace the seals yourselves and be done with it.
