Default Supercar's Dog Box

I was reading the NG07 announcement and read that Super Car is finally releasing their Dog Box. I remember the the origianal thread way back when. Where mikes2nd, Gatecrasher, Dark helmet and doctor Stupid showed their vast knowledge of transmissions. (I want a dogbox...)

Here is the newer link to the Supercar thread:
(Dog Box)

My questions are the following:

Does it use the original 6 speed casing?
Is it available as a drop in gear system or a fully assembled unit?
How smooth is the shifting for daily drivers? (let me re-phrase) occassional street driving?
Would carbon on carbon Clutches Smooth out engagement of the gears or is it even necessary?

Yes, used stock 6-speed case.
When it's available, it will most likely be the gear set only.
Depends on your skill, can be butter smooth, but requires authority and finess, and 95% of people can't do that. And 100% won't like the expensive sounding noises it makes.
No.

[edit]: an answer to a question no-one here knows to ask: The jerkyness during throttle transitions is from the "lash" in the dogs, and will make your "daily driver" very much a car you don't want to drive on the streets...and downright embarrasing while doing parking lot manuvures and while driving on the street because people will think you don't know how to drive a stick.

yeah same here, and it isn't anything your sound system or audio dampening materials can't help right? When is the Availablilty date on the gear set? I am planning on rebuilding my 6 speed asap, but I may just wait and save up a little more money. What is the projected price point for this gear setup and with what rear differential gear ratio does it work with (5 or 6 speed diff)?

I'm Growing impatient on this gear set! We need this now! any underground resources I could buy a gear set from?

added to original post:
Is the weld-in internal bellhousing brace still a good Idea with this new setup? Also from what I've read there are only two 6 speed gear sets made right now. When will more be available and what is the final price for these gear sets.

why would u need this for your car???..doesn't make much sesen for you to install this being that it would be a costly inconvience for your daily driver..do you drag race alot?

My car is not running right now because my transfer case crapped out and shattered my bell housing on my 5 speed. I'm trying to prevent this costly experience again. Also seeing as everyone here is always having problems with their syncros and rebuild parts are becoming harder and harder to come by I thought this would be a good alternative. I am wanting to build it once and not have to worry about it falling apart if i'm a little rough on it. I am probably going to be spending close to what the new dog gears would cost on just rebuilding my 6 speed anyway so I thought this would be a good upgrade. I also want a solid foundation to add alot of power to later. My projected horse power will be 500-700 horse power and the torqe that goes with that power. I do plan on using this car mainly for drag racing and "Open Highway" driving. It won't be completely a trailor queen, but I will be driving my beater car during the winter and during bad weather. If you think it would be better for me to just rebuild my 6 speed tell me why. I am open minded and wont shun good advice. I don't proclaim to be a "know it all", but I think this would be a good improvement to my car. I have been following this project since it was just an idea and realize the pluses and minuses of the dog gears. I don't profess to be an expert on the matter, and its been a while since i've read every page of this thread: (http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread....272554&page=1). If anyone wants to chime in who has experience with dog box transmissions I am willing to listen. I have the parts to make this conversion happen (http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php?t=330177) I just need to have them shipped to me. Right now i'm looking at about $755.00 to have the parts car shipped to me. I can sell the internals to offset the cost of the gear kit and sell my extra transfer case if I have to. I plan on sending the case to Northbend Tech to have them spruce up the case and do some metalergy magic to it and am thinking abou the weld in bell housing brace to strengthen this set up even more. Some of my questions are:

Is a clutch necessary for downshifting with this setup? or is it possible to down shift just by RPM matching (double clutching) If so what is reccommended?

Do I need to buy the upgraded output shaft from northbendtech or does this gear set include it?

What Differentials are currently available for the VR-4 Front? Mid? Rear?: Kormex Front?, Quaife ATB FWD LSD?, KAAZ Rear AWD Limited Slip Differential? (will have to buy later on down the road, but want to know what is available) What works with the VR-4?

Wow, that's a VERY nice looking dog box! I like how they made 2nd, 3rd and 4th helical. That will definitely make it more pleasurable to drive. I have worked on a couple of different dog box units built by others that were straight cut in the DSMs and was never very impressed. The unit above built for you guys looks to be very well engineered, IMO. It's too bad they didn't make the input shaft bearings tapered. I'd love to look at the setup in person

You can get away with forceful clutchless downshifts, but it's not reccommended for longevity of the dogs. Double clutching is the best method. Quaife makes LSD's for AWD cars, Philip should have them by now.

No current replacement center diff has been designed yet, but it's on the list.
