New User - Please be kind
|
I did some searching but I could not find an answer (not good at finding stuff on forums) - apologies if I am repeating.
I am curious what power should I start looking into rebuilding/upgrading the xfer case/tranny if I am looking to do mainly roll races. Thank you for your input. EDIT: Oops, AWD models. |

VR-4 broken again.

If you never do races from a dig you should be fine at almost any reasonable power level. However high power launches from a dig with sticky tires most definitely demand a transfer case bracket and upgraded output shaft.

What do you have now? Its almost 100% reliant on how you drive the car also. I went from beaking shit all the time driving like a moron to never breaking the car again and getting the same times. But there is a limit eventually of course...
Better tecnique instead of rev/dump and hang on. Jason

The 6-speed driveline is pretty good up to about 590-600 AWHP. About then you should brace the bellhousing if you're going to be launching the car. After that...ummm....yeah. It's solid.
The iron 6-speed T-Case is about bullet proof. 5-speed wise the aluminum T-case is the limiting factor. Not sure of an absolute power number but I would (personally) be weary of launching a 500 AWHP car with an aluminum T-case. You can get a billet T-case which holds up just as well (maybe even better than) the 6-speed t-case. T-Case brackets aren't exactly a proven fix. I wouldn't trust one to hold together an aluminum T-Case on a 600+ AWHP car. 5-Speeds have split bellhousings occasionally too but they seem to take more launch abuse than the 6-speeds...so that's good.

The output shaft that goes to the transfer case. It is possible to twist them off. There are upgrades available.
Brackets for the 5 speed t-case help the longevity of them greatly, but it seems they still end up breaking anyways on the higher (500+) power cars.
