Default Should i even bother changing synrcros

I have changed 3 transmissions in the life of my VR4, every time 2nd gear was grinding.. now i have the tranny out to change the clutch, and i don't even know if its worth changing the syncro.. a few reasons i think this is one, im a college student with not a lot of money to work with, two everywhere i go i tend to see people start to get grinding after a year of replacing theirs.. it just does not seem worth the money? what do you guys think

Sounds like you keep smoking synchros due to improper clutch adjustment or something. There is no reason to go through that many of them... I'd replace it. The car feels like a total POS with a grinding tranny.

Well actually its the trannys i bought had them to begin with, the one i had in there was "rebuilt" when i bought it, i put it in and its grinding from the first time i shifted into gear. I emailed the guy back about it, he sent me a "syncro set" but later i found out it was just one of the rings for 2nd gear and one for 3rd was not the whole set :-/ It does feel like POS tho i just dont want to spend every penny i got (yes 200$ is a lot for me) to have it pretty much go down the drain .. but thank you for the response im still debating

I wouldn't change out the synchros, because there's alot of people that a spend thousands of dollars on their engine upgrades but no one is willing to spend anything to come-up with a alternative for this!! or at lease experiment!!

*The problem with the syncros: too many teeth to engage together with the gear.
*Solution: redesign new hub/slider/syncro with less teeth that are evenly spaced out apart

-back to you!, If you have a alternative to travel-don't buy!
(Then: aftermarket peps will have to experiment or create something!!)

well you obviously have not been getting good trans to start with, all of them being used right? maybe fluid, clutch engagement, and rebild quality is your problem. but as far as syncro quality, if done right it will last.

Yeah i think it might have been just very bad luck, it just has me paranoid that after all the money and work two months into the drive it will start grinding.. maybe ill see if i can sell my other craftsman tools and digital camera and pick up a syncro set for the 2nd gear thanks guys!
