Default Poppet springs

hi guys. first of all its a 18 spline awd trannsaxle.

I finally tore apart the tranny since my car wouldn't go into 1st gear with or without the car being turned on.

First thing I noticed was on the first gear synchros, the poppet springs were sitting upright, instead of pushing outward against the poppet balls. Will this affect why it wouldn't go into first gear with the shift connection control assembly? If I manually pull the synchro into first, it would go in, but if I do it with the linkage with the bell housing on, it feels like its binding.

pics of the poppet springs sitting straight up:

pics of the springs itself, partially broken:

the spring on the far right doesn't look oem, maybe it was rebuilt before?

With out those in there properly, there is nothing to push on the syncro really. Were they jammed in there or loose? But yes that is most likely the cause of your issues. How did it go into second gear?

i pulled the gear off and stuff, and they were just sitting like that. For some reason it went into second gear easily still, but it wouldn't go into first at all. even with almighty force.

Although with the car on, I put it into 2nd gear without pushing in the clutch and the car did not move at all, but the guy told me the clutch was "dead" when I bought it.
