i just finished installed my TEIN S-tech springs. everything went well. no problems that i noticed.
when i was done and cleaned up all the tools and whatnot(on base at hobby shop) i tried to back the car out. as soon as i started to let the clutch out. i heard a nasty grinding noise. the car will not move whatsoever under its own power. i can let the clutch out all the way without giving throttle. but it grinds horribly. the guy at the hobby shop said it sounds like a throwout bearing. but i have a nasty feeling it might be the tranny/transfer case. i did a search and couldnt find anything, but ill keep looking. please help

Probably not the TOB since the most stress on the bearing is when you apply the clutch not while releasing it. If you can let the clutch out all the way without the motor stalling it sounds like your clutch is shot. How many miles on the current clutch.

pull the transfer case and check the splines on the OS.
sounds like a coincidence failure. also make sure 1 of the halfshafts didnt pop out of the trans. this is more likely since you were just in the area.

**If you press the clutch in/down to the floor, and then slamming it into (Rev) it should go "clunck", the car many move a bit in reverse.
*Possible causes: -worn clutch -worn throw-out bearing -clutch not disengaged fully -needs adjusting -or syncro ring is worn Hopefully this helps..... ![]()

I would def check to see that you didnt pull the half shafts out of the tranny seeing as you were playing in that area it is def possible that they slipped out enough.

i tried taking a look at the halfshafts today. i think that is what happened. but i couldnt figure out how to fix the problem. i disconnected them from the rotors and pushed them in as best i could.
it worked for about 5 feet and then stopped. now its grinding and squealing. this blows |

It sounds like the clip on the end of the shaft is not engaged-meaning the shaft is not all the way in. Or maybe there is no clip on the axle, and the shaft is popping out?
It takes a good amount of force to slam the axle into the trans, are you sure they are in all the way? At this point the splines might be messed up, and not allowing the shaft to couple with the trans. |
