Instructions for pulling the tranny can be found in the vehicle service manual. I strongly recommend that for a job like this you have a service manual handy. It's not only good for how to get it out but even better for how to put it back together. Follow the step by step removal process and you shouldn't have any problems.

I am using a mitsu dealership service manual. Its has the location of all the bolts and order of things to take apart. Its a really valuable tool.

As far as experiance... Im only 19. I suck, but Im learning as I go. I too dont have the money to let others do it. It was hard enugf finding a vr4 I could afford with only 62k miles on it. Course I had to go fu c k it up tho.

Tonight was the 2nd and final night of the trans takeout party. I owe a big thanks to undertaker, Captian and Jerggy. They both helped me alot. Jerg, As soon as I got that bolt you showed me I missed, it started coming apart. DUH.

Here is where I took off from yesterday. I took off Passenger side axle. Just dangled the thing like I saw captian do.

Then It came out with a crow bar (Undertaker saves the day)

Then my friend removed the right cross member.

Now I took and loosened the drivers side hub thing and dangled it with the zip tie again.

Took that axel off after taking off the support that helps it on it long journey to the trans.

Then the trany was the rest of the way unbolted and droped. YEH! Pics make it go by fast and easy but nothing is really that easy about it. I had to take off the vacume things that are like plasic long hotdogs and the IC piping to drop the trans out.

And I too am a stickler for tradition. But I decided to get one up on the compitition and do a double salute with the aid of my brother on the camera. Thus freeing up a had to show my transmission how I feel about it.

Now the hard stuff. Fixing it. I have to order parts and Im going to need help and I have lots of questions so stay tuned please!

Hey! I think I remember talking to you guys at Gateway sometime this summer. I was the other guy with the red VR-4. Good luck on the transmission rebuild. Mine is out right now also and I should be rebuilding it sometime this winter. Also thanks for loaning me a few $1 bills that night so I could get something from the soda machine

Dude your bad ass. How are you. I went to Gateway last week. Was hoping to see you but I didnt. There were two other vr4s there tho. Both were 1st gens.
One red, one green.

You got a thread about what your up too? Id like to hear just why your shit is appart. Hopefully it is for more power reasons. But you werer in the low 12s the night I saw you. You could go 11s on those turbos I bet.

I will be putting a lsd in my trans. I dont think shift forks are going to be needed tho.

As fuzzy as they are, they look better than mine. If that is grease I see on those splines then that would explain why they are in such better shape. It also means that someone has been in there wrenching on it before because it does not normally get grease from the dealer. When I took mine off it was rusted and bone dry.

I'm glad to see you got the thing out. Nice salute!!! I have to say that I meant to take a LOT more pictures during my work, but seeing as I am the only one working on it, it is both a pain to stop and take pics all the time and I don't feel like ruining a $500 digital camera with automotive grease and grime.

Like IPO said, it's nice to see a lot more people diggin into their trannys. I've done engines before (10 years ago) and I attempted an auto tranny (a GM TH350) and mucked it up. This job was not that difficult. If you have a good mechanical sense and take your time you'll do fine. I'm glad my thread was helpful to you. That was the intention. Read the first post in the Getrag 440/446 thread for all of the parts info. Are you planning a full rebuild while you are in there or just doing the 1/2 syncros?
