Sandblasting is not a good thing here. That crap gets everywhere, even in places you didn't know you had places. Take it to a shop and have them tank it for you. It's cheap and you can always repaint it when you get it back.
I'm glad to see things are coming along for you. I've been on car hiatus for a while. After putting in my tranny, my electrical problems returned. I finally decided to replace the engine harness. I also bought a new battery cable harness. I finally got the thing installed yesterday and the car fired right up. I have a CEL now, and I seem to have a boost leak. Ho hum.

NO! Take it back apart! Forged rods and forged pistons!! LOL
Well, at least that's what I'll be doing when mine comes apart again. So how'd you end up cleaning that block out (sand?), ultimately?

Rob - yeah, honed and got rings from 3sx becuase they were way cheaper than rockville and Im straped for cash on the end of this build. Hopefully perfect cirlce rings are good. OEM never hurts tho. Gues i coulda sprung the extra 60bucks
![]() Adam - To be honest, I cleaned it with air compresser and water. My fingers are crossed. I dont think any sand is in there. Refrain from flames please. Only after I spin bearings on start up can flames ensue.Heres a pic so far today. Engine bay is spicity clean after quite a while inside her croweded walls. ![]() |

looks like it's coming along. Mine should hopefully be running this weekend. Leaving school tomorrow afternoon and probably staying up to 6-7am on Friday and Saturday night to get it done

I woulda got the OE rings. Just make sure the ring end gaps are set to spec.
As for the sand, it may not kill ya right away... just might wipe about 50k miles off the motors lifespan. Best bet would be to check the bearings in a few K miles if apprehensive about it.. you would know better than anyone else about what may or may not have gotten into the oiling system. Rob |
