First Question of the project. When taking out the xfercase, It says that a special tool is needed to prevent oil discharge and prevent foreing objects from entering. Is this nessiscary? will oil shoot out if I remove it? Should I drain my transmission, transfercase, ext?

You should drain the transfer case before you remove it. When you drop the driveshaft you may get some of the remaining fluid leaking out the tail end. You don't need the tool. You should definitely drain your tranny or it will get messy once you pop those axles out. Good luck with the pull. So why are you pulling the tranny? Just bored????

I never knew this, but you can just pull the transfercase off, and keep the fluid in there... That's how they say to do it.. Just make sure the tail end doesn't drop down!

No special plug needed on the back (That's to keep fluid in) and just a big flathead to get it away from the transmission itself.. Just tug and plug

I need some More help. Captin, in your thread, How did you get your axels out? I have taken the two screws out that hold the strut onto the knuckle and zip tied it, but then how do you get the axels ouT? Just pull? I guess I will drain the trans and wait for an answer. I know you said that IPO told u how but I cant find that thread.

Im doing a rebuild cause I broke my 1/2 gear syncro set on a bad shift about 7 months ago. Tired of grinding.

The whole a arm should be able to drop down a bit now that the strut is no longer attatched.

Then you can "pop" the half shafts out. They have a c clip that hold them in the trans so it can take a bit of force to break them loose.

If you have any other questions hit me up on AIM = unclebenny4140

How experienced in dealing with taking out the tranny are you? I just blew 2 gear synchro and i really cant afford to take it to a shop to pull the tranny. I also have the 6sp, do you have a manual on how to pull the tranny or do you just know. I would like to do it myself also, how hard is it to do on jackstands?

I've pulled my trans twice (once for clutch/flywheel and once for jdm gears) as well as pulled one on a buddy of mine's car. It's very straightforward after your first time. I have the manuals but I never used them.

For a good walkthrough go to www.stealth316.com.

Go to garage, then to factory items, then to clutch and transaxle.
