Default Re: Lse SS T-Case

I'm looking at buying this particular transfer case as the one in my 1990/1991 GTO (5 speed obviously) needs to be replaced. I don't want another standard item put in as it will most likely just break again. I'm looking at getting a 300m output shaft from supercar engineering as well. The question is, on the LSE website it states that this transfer case was meant for the big bearing 18 spline and 25 spline 3000gt's. what exactly does the big bearings part mean? I wasn't aware of any change in bearing size throughout the two 5-speed variations

And if this does mean something, what do I need to do to be able to use it with my gear box? I'm also replacing all synchros and bearings inside the W5MG1.

thanks

if you have a bolt on your cover, where getrag is, and its 18 spline then you have a big bearing 18 spline...most likly. I have heard of ppl swaping over covers so they could fill their tcases better. If you dont have a bolt on the cover then its a small bearing, you being a 90-91 prob have the small bearing.

ok so if I do have the small bearing, where does this leave me? What can I do to be able to use that TC? Or is there another similar TC that would be suitable for my gearbox that is as strong? I'm after an almost unbreakable driveline so this doesn't happen again (note the almost in that).

It would prob be cheaper to buy a big bearing one out of the forsale section for around 200 bucks. But if you order it from 3sx I bet you they have the stuff to hook you up with what you need. Might cost a little bit more but it might be less then buying a big bearing tc. depending on your power levels and clutch option you may be ok with just a very good brace.

Well power levels are relatively stock at the moment just simple mods of air filter, turbo back exhaust, BOV, FMIC, clutch is stock. Maximum output that I'd be looking for would be 500hp if I were to go ahead and do it. But I am considering just a computer and boost controller and running about 13psi.

I just got 2 used t-cases for those "just in case" days, so hopefully I will be good for a while, but none the less, I would like to know at what hp/tq level do we start breaking them? I have 15Gs, CFDS, UR light FW, and the DXD-F 6 puck clutch.

Also what does the bill run for this setup?

its not always a certain HP range, I am sure plenty here have broken with stock power....hence the recal. But if you are launching hard, drivetrain shock, then you might want to get ready for it. Yes you could break it with 15g's.

Its deff not cheap for this set up but to get an accure price call up IPS or 3sx...they can tell you exactly.

Do you think the cage will suffice with the 15Gs?

keep drivetrain shock off of it, and yeah a cage will be fine.
