I am concerned reading this. I have had similar issues in years past, and now I'm sure I have a clutch dragging issue. I firmly fought the idea of not resurfacing flywheels for years. I have learned that mitsubishi is, indeed mightybitchi. I don't believe in resurfacing these damn flywheels, and I think that alot of installs are butchered, as noted before. In addition, slaves and masters are only now seeming to be something people consider replacing as much. I also believe many aftermarket clutches are not quite correct. I had a conversation about this with bret once upon a time. Even with that considered, parts can still be made by somebody on a bad day now and then, and unfortunately, we are sometimes left with the issues. I certainly think this particular problem sounds like a clutch issue, and I would get a new OEM flywheel, and I believe you didn't mention your slave, so I would recommend that too. I have had some vehicles that no matter what diagnosis I try, or how many veteran brains get involved, some shit is just bad. In ways not always very measurable.
As a matter of fact, that brings up something that just happened a few weeks ago. It is a GM manual in a dump truck. Same(I believe they said) as in heavy duty pickups. The pressure plate has a plastic wheel if you will, that adjusts as the friction and plate wear. However, It is adjusting up immediately, and acting somewhat like the problems we are discussing here. General Motors does not even have a fix for it. This is not a brand new truck either. Its a flawed design from a few years back, and overcomplicated. Much like our mitsumopars. Alot of times, in fact most, the more complex, the more parts costs involved. Its unfortunate, but being in the field,(and owning this mitsu) I've come to understand this. These cars are more of a parts cost car, not a 'slap it in like an old camaro' kinda thing. And hey, they had other problems anyway.....like being a chevy ![]()

VRFury - I remember that conversation. SPEC has updated the design of their sprung clutch hubs for increased duribility. I do not believe we have seen any trouble from them thus far. I am still a fan of a heavy flywheel on the AWD cars. If there is anything else I can help you with just let me know. Most of the cost I have seen that is associated with these cars can be linked to owners not exploring their options and lack of knowledge. I had a real close friend of mine have that happen to him recently. He was too eager to get the car on the road and he ended up making a big desicion with out exploring his options and it came back to bight him in the butt... and wallet... That is why I try too pass on as much info as possible to people, because they make better desicions that lead to happier owners with nicer cars and fatter wallets. I would not worry about GM though, they are so big the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. That is why they continue to make the same mistakes they have made decades earlier. Like bankruptcy and public appologies for making subpar products. ![]()
