i have a jdm vr4 awd 5 speed and i have the sychros from 2nd and 3rd gear and they look identical and measure up exactly the same, so is there a difference or not between them? this is the gold coloured parts im talking about (friction ring i think is the correct name).
what is the difference if there is one? 2 different gearbox shops have said they are exactly the same for 2nd and 3rd gear by looking at them. any advice appreciated as i cant seem to find many 2nd gear sychros but 3rd is easier to find. thanks Brad |

Thats weird...
In the two 5 speed awd getrags I've taken apart 1st/2nd were the same, 3/4 the same, 5th, and reverse. Neither were "jdm" though but I doubt that matters. 2nd ![]() 3rd

Hi Toni thanks an absolute heap for those pics, finally i know what is what, i think the idiot who pulled my box apart told me i needed 2nd and 3rd actually means 3rd and 4th, as both synchros look like your pic of 3rd gear, i now remember 2nd is a 3 piece setup and looks nothing like 3rd gear.
looks like ill order a 3rd and 4th now ![]() thanks again Brad |
