i gess ill be looking for a jdm 6spd/transfer combo, i assume you have to use the 6spd transfer, and either rebuild my rear diff or find a rear diff with no backlash. thanks for the help.

hey, i'm bringing this back from the dead, i'm hoping somebody an give me some help here.

backstory: a fella came to the shop asking for some help with his 93 vr4 (w5mg1), he blew his trans up internally. instead of rebuilding, he purchased a jdm trans. turns out the trans he got was a jdm w6mg1. i haven't put it in yet, from what i've read it looks like he can use his 5 speed diff. i do know some of his existing transfer case bolt holes do not line up but it looks like it will still work, altho not well. i believe the front axles are the same throughout all years. i checked caps, kinda a pain in the ass but from what i can tell it looks like he will need the shift linkage and shift assembly and a new tc (existing one looks like it will work but not advised).

basically, my question(s) are this:

1. which transfer case does he need?
2. will his 5 speed axles in fact work with the 6 speed trans?
3. will the rear diff and driveshaft be ok?
4. shift linkage and assembly need changed?
5. what else am i missing or should be aware of?

any help is appreciated, i found this thread by searching, read brett's trans wiki and did some of my own research but validation is appreciated thanks

1. you'll need the 6 speed TC
2. yes
3. you'll need the first part of the 6 speed driveshaft that goes into the transfercase since it's about an inch longer, the 5 speed will work but I don't recommend it
4. no
5. you'll need a 2g lower radiator hose, it's a little bit different

thanks leet

there is no change in the shifter assembly in the console? that surprises me. i wasn't sure whether the linkage/cabling changed but i did expect the assembly to be needed.

i did see the issue with the lower radiator hose when i was fitting it up but thanks for pointing it out, i had forgotten about it also thanks for the confirmation about the axles. big thanks for the info re: driveshaft, that i did not know

Back from the dead.

There is a guy on Ebay that is selling a set of these "GTO MR Gears" for a 6-speed.

eBay Motors: 3000GT/Stealth GTO MR Gear (for 6-speed transmission) (item 330230689958 end time Apr-29-08 20:38:23 PDT)

can you swap a JDM 6 speed into a 91 with a 91 USDM rear end? It makes me wonder with the 18/25 spline thing. anyone know?

I bought those gears from the auction and just took delivery. They look pretty good, although, I would like to confirm that they are indeed the JDM gears. Does anyone know the tooth count of the ring and pinion. Just want to double check their JDM-ness.

Thanks

Did gen 3s get the hybrid diff as standard? I seem to remember somewhere that there were no gen 3 MRs and basically the Gens 3 had all the goodies.
