As I said, my 3rd looked nearly the same as yours. I would at least pick up a good used 3rd gear to replace that one. |

Yes, those flat spots both on the gear dogs and on the slider will cause a problem. Replace both. As for the friction ring. What do the ball detent pads look like? That is the place that really wears and causes the ring to not travel foward and stop the gear in time.

It is interesting, I took these pictures to show the detent pad, but the second picture clearly shows wear on the teeth of friction ring, as mentioned in mynamiseli's thread.
