Default How do I bullet-proof my Drivetrain?

'91 VR-4 (built 8/8/1990)

My Output shaft is about done. So, now what can I do about it?

I am lost in the confusion of the 18 or 25 spline, what part is what and how to have a set-up that will last me street and strip time... Any answers from anyone?

Upgrade to a 300m outputshaft and get a tcase bracket. You should look at getting some poly or solid motor mounts also. If you have the money get all of the above with the cast steel tcase from lse.

Being a 91, with an early production date (1990), can I switch from the 18-spline to the 25 spline? That means I get the new t-case shaft sleeve, and the new output shaft?

Who makes the transfer case? Links? I know of 3SX's stainless steel front and mid section replacements. Who also makes the bracket?

300M OS, with the steel front and mid case is about as solid as you can get.

lse performance carries the t-case
maximal performance has a t-case bracket
Supercar engineering has the outputshaft

I think at this point, financially, I'll have to go with a stock replacement. I need my car running for the Littleton, MA to Jacksonville, NC trip. With the new clutch and flywheel, and the fact I haven't driven her in SO LONG (1 year) I 'm not gonna beat on my car at all...

So, now I have to figure out, 18 or 25 spline, big or small input sleeve, correct?

The cheapest and most reliable thing to do is to buy an 18 spline 300m OS. If you do a 25 spline conversion I think you are going to need the 25 spline VCU & planetary, as well as the 25 spline transfer case spool. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

This is probably what I'm gonna do actually, but however I have a question, does the Tcase from LSE is a full tcase or only the housing ?

Because LSE sells their Tcase 1K$, and 3SX sell the front and mid housing for 1250$... so what's the catch ?

thanks

the LSE and 3sx tcase are the same thing. LSE did the r&d and sold them originally, and 3sx now resells them. it is just the front, main housing. unless you also get the mid housing. then you will still reuse your stock tail end of the tcase. it is JUST the housing, none of the innards. you can also get the mid housing through the place LSE had make them. at least you could as of a few months ago.

If I understand well the research I've made, the t.case bracket and the upgraded housing are mostly usufull if I want to launch the car. There is little chance (still possible I gess) to break the t.case on highway pulls ?

In my case my car is for the street only with no intention to drop the clutch ever. I'm upgrading to 15Gs only.

Thanks for the info.
