Default Hmmm... car built oct of 91 but has 25 spline.

I have my car in the shop getting a new short block put in (spun bearing). So i went to check on it today and they had the old motor and trans out so i decided to count my spline and magically i have 25. I thought they didnt change over to 25splines until november of 91? Either way good new to me. I checked the splines for wear and they looked good. Anywhere else i should be checking for problems?

who did you buy the car from? 25 splines didn't start until late 92.

...model year. he's talking production date. hint, some '92's were built in '91.

Could of easily been switched over. Seems like most didnt get 25 spline until march and even then some built later only got 18 splines, could be just a fluke too though.

Hint: Recall, warranty work, or previous owner paid for a new trans/tcase, etc.

Not a real surprise that it has a 25 spline. Good deal though.

i know he was talking about production dates. however, i believe (correct me if i'm wrong), that the 25 splines didn't go into the 3s until late 92+ production models. i'm also guessing it was the previous owner that upgraded it to a 25 spline. i don't think recall work includes the amount of work it would take to convert from 18 to 25.

If the output shaft splines rusted while the car was still under warranty, the general dealer fix was to replace both the tranny and transfercase to keep them as a matched set and eliminate the possibility of getting the wrong trans back from Mitsubishi.

Happened a lot in the "early days".

the production sticker on my car says it was produced in Jan 92. does that mean i have the 25 spline? that would be cool if it did.
