I guess ill start from the top. About 2 months ago I purchased a 92 VR4 off of this forum and have since installed a spec stage II clutch along with the spec aluminum flywheel. The clutch installation was kinda tricky but me and my brother were able to take it slow and over the course of two weekends we had it up and running!
Well everything was great with the car, shifting smoothly, no slipping clutch or anything….well that lasted for about 3 weeks or so. In this time I put close to 1000 miles on the car driving home and what not. Anyways I noticed one day that the point at which the clutch would engage was getting closer and closer to the floor…I barley got it back home. Since this time ive done much research and replaced slave cylinder along with installing a steel braded line and bled the system. Inspection of the master cylinder reveled that it was not leaking at all inside of the cab. I also adjusted the clutch petal (the extreme out position )in order to get it to grab in the correct location. After all of this was said and done I got it to work once again…for a day or so of driving. And once again last night I had to drive it home in second gear. I went out this morning and the fluid level was correct so I decided to adjust the petal again and this time went as far out in one direction as possible. The allowed me to move the car around without notchy shifting but I really doubt it will last due to it engaging like maybe 1/8 of the way off the floor board. I also tested to see if the clutch was dragging once i was able to move it this morning and i was. Around 6500 rmp's it would start to creep forward. So I am kind of stuck…. -Is the clutch disc warped (I was able to drive it perfectly for 1000 miles before it went down) -Could the master cylinder be bad even though it isn’t leaking? -Or am I being stupid and totally missing something? Thanks for any impute you guys have! It really sucks when the car is down but it’s so worth it once it’s up and running! P.S. Sorry for the short essay ![]() UPDATE....3/18 I intalled the new mater cylinder today and still no go!!! I bled a good two reservoirs worth of fluid out of the system and the clutch felt really firm…but when I started it nothing and it also lost some of its resistance. I even tried adjusting the clutch pedal in the two extreme positions and still nothing. Someone has to have some idea…once again im stuck… -Furthermore does anyone know the 'throw distance' is on the arm that connects to the throw out baring (the distance the slave piston travels)? It seems to me that its moving the complete distance…which is making me think its something in the physical clutch…not cool… -Update 3/20 I spoke to a mechanic I know and he printed me off the official way to bleed and assess the clutch hydraulic system. Im going to try this today and if doesn’t work ill be tearing the transmission out mon. If anyone has other ideas pleas let me know! Last edited by jake_20 : 03-20-2008 at 11:34 AM. Reason: Update! |

Well for anyone that might be following this I decided to purchase a new master cylinder due bleeding a good 3 reservoirs worth of fluid through the system and not finding any leaks. Ill post back when I get the new master in and hopefully up and running….

Update 3/26 The car is going at last!!! Three weeks later and after replacing the flywheel, clutch. Pressure plate, steel braded line, slave cylinder, master cylinder, and lastly the shifting fork along with the fulcrum. Come to find out the shifting for had much play in it at the point of were it connects to the fulcrum (the ball thingy) Anyways if I have any advice for everyone it is to replace the shifting fork if at all possible when you do the clutch! It would have saved me so much time and energy…I don’t even want to think about it. Im so glad that’s over….can only imagine what’s next lol

glad to hear that you got it working... I had my clutch slave cylinder take a crap on my today in a turn lane in rush our traffic... woot that was fun... giving my car a push start to get it out of the way and then jamming it into gear and driving in first to the nearest parking lot.
I know for sure my slave cylinder is bad because I touched the boot around the cylinder and fluid poured out... but I also noticed that there was a little bit of fluid that had dripped down my firewall which i hear means my master cylinder is bad too... I dont really wanna replace that too though... eek... cross my fingers and hope that holds. I need my car running as of yesterday. glad you got yours all worked out.
