Default (Help!!) can a tied rod end snapping cause a car to not move?

I already asked this question but maybe in the wrong department but anways i got a 95 vr4 and i heard a popping noise in driveway while turning steering wheel, Turns out to be the tie rod end so now my car wont even move at all it gives a feeling like the ebrake is on but its not.

can a tie rod really immobilize a car ?

the short answer is no. Even with a broken TRE you should be able to move your car. Why not just replace it so you can eliminate the issue. Sounds like you got something else going on.

Thanks benson, I actually had a mechanic show me something today and apparently for all wheel drive cars, tie rods can immobilize you because he jacked the car and set the wheel straight and the car moves. so i think the awd system ensures all wheels are straight first before it engage otherwise its locked

Humm that's something I learned today.

I can see how it will make the car un-drive able but not immobile. Maybe someone else will pipe in

Usually when that happens you can back up, but not move forward. In reverse the wheel is like a caster and follows direction of travel. Forward, it just moves to an inner or outer lock. You can move, but it just drags the wheel!

Make sense now?

If you had a tie rod end so badly worn that it broke, there are probably other parts that need attention too. If you dont know how to check everything, find someone who can. I dont want something else to break while you are zooming down the highway.
