I so wished I Didn't drain the fluid in my tranny. It was NEVER hard to shift into second. I live it Iowa, had my car for nearly 9 years, and never had a problem shifting when it was cold...that is until I changed the fluid to GM synchromesh after reading all the good things about it.

Why does everyone keep saying GM synchromesh is so good?! I only hear negative things about it like gear wear and bad stuff.. i would like to see where all these good things about synchromesh are?

Yea, -10 degrees fahrenheit is getting on the cold side! Been there many times. By the end of January, we get kinda used to it and its just like... meh, its cold outside again. Oh well.

Just use the gear oil Mitsubishi recommends. But I'd be tempted to try 15W40 engine oil in cold climates. Mine goes into 2nd with a Ca-chunk when it is cold and when it warms up after a few miles, its fine. Automatic transmission fluid may work quite well, since the synchronizers use a friction material similar to what automatic transmissions use in their clutch packs. Maybe it is hard on the VCU? I dunno.

lol, yup, thats about how it goes here. Doesnt start feeling cold unless we are in the negatives and even then its like, eh, whatever, its cold. I work at a GM dealership and we had to start all the new cars today in -15 degree weather. The cars would barely start. hah.
