This has already been discussed. The only way to compare actual shaft properties (other than software modeling) would be to destructively test one of each shaft. No one is going to destroy $1000 of product and pay another $1000 to have the testing done. Charpy, tensile, or any other mechanical test would not be relevant on a carburized part. A properly carburized alloy shaft will always out-perform a through-hardened alloy shaft, so I'll place my money on the NBT product...

I know the corrosion resistant coating is a bonus but how much rusting do you really have on the splines of your stock output shafts? I know I have some small amount but it is minimal so I'm not sure the corrosion inhibiter is absolutely necessary. To be quite honest, I'm not really sure which to go with, the Mark Williams output shaft is more widely available (easy to find at Supercar) but then I've heard a lot of good things about NBT; price is a concern but I'd rather just go with the better of the two.

I dont know how much salting they do is WA but in Chicago, Detroit, and other places the salt does a number on the output shafts. NBT being from Detroit have first hand experience into why the research was done.

If you have a 25 spline I'd go with the northbend stuff just to support their research.

For us 18 spliners M.W. is/was our only choice.

My car is a NY car which has been exposed to salt for most of it's life. The underside of my car is fairly rusted as a result and despite it's life in the various states in which I've lived the output shaft doesn't have an appreciable amount of rust.

I guess I'm just not familiar with the carburized process to really understand. I have some experience with destructive testing and despite the fact that it is expensive it does prove which alloy/process is better. Anyhow, I'll take a better look at the NBT shaft; I just want to make sure I get the better piece is all. Out of curiousity, where does one buy a NBT output shaft? I'm pretty sure the 25 spline group buy is probably closed by now.

Has anyone else gotten the end case input shaft bearing from applied?
They said they had the 57497 one and couldn't find a listing for the 6405C3 number. So I got the first one, it's the same size however mine has a beveled edge where it sits under that plate that bolts on top of it and the new one didn't. They took it back no problem but just wondering if anyone knows how to get the correct one?

My first find =)... almost...
I google:d 040.8.0051.10 (1-2 synchronizer outer ring) and found that this getrag number is also in a transmission called F-28.. wich can be found in Opel Calibra Turbo 4x4, (vauxhall vectra)

Just edited the first post again. I included the new part suppliers mentioned previously and updated what each vendor supplies.

Theo VR4 - I know we have one of the OEM bearings brand new in stock at 3SX if you are having trouble locateing one. We have the alternitive number ordered but it has not come in yet. We currently have quite a few new and used parts in stock.

I know this isn't the best thread to post "what I need" information, but I'm desperately looking for a 2nd gear synchro and slider and 3rd gear slider for a 92 18-spline VR4 if anyone can help out.

Thanks!
