Don't count on it being a simple "weld it back up" job. More thank likely it you have a lock up it is more serious than that. You will not know the extent of the damage until it is opened up. No noone can guess at what it is. could be this, could be that. It will be painfully obvious (oh boy don't we all know that feeling) once you open it and see a broken schmegle staring you in the face. If your first step was just removing the houseing bolts please stop right there! Gategrasher and others have deciphered the Japanese rebuild manual for the transmission. You should read it and see if you want to do the job. There are other threads that talk extensively about rebuilding the Getrags done by Brett, Gatecrasher, and others. There are even videos out there. Please search for them as this thread is about parts for the units and how to get them. Over 100 pages is bad enough, but luckily Brett updates the first page with info on how to get parts.

Sorry to post at the end, but i'm desperately looking for 3rd gear synchro and ring for a 5-speed AWD tranny. I have PM'ed Kormex and DarkHelmet, but haven't heard back...

Anyone know where I can get these parts currently? I've tried the places listed on the first page, but to no avail.

Just did a quick update to the first post to include Jacks, RalliArt, and more details about 3SX, NBT, and a few others. More updates on the way.

Bret, your update mentions the NBT Quadco 25 Spline Shaft. They also have a Quadco 25 Spline spool for the transfer case.

I'm not sure if this is covered here within the thread (yeah, I know, shame on me for not reading everything but I have searched for this answer a bit and wasn't able to find what I'm looking for). Anyhow, I'm looking to get an upgraded output shaft since my tranny is apart for a rebuild and I'm looking at possibly getting the 300M one from Mark Williams or QuadcoXR one from North Bend Tech. My question is, which material is actually better? I've heard nothing but good things about the QuadcoXR and it is cheaper than the 300M shaft but I really just want the one that is of better quality and is stronger. So, can someone with experience shed some light on these two items for me as to which is truely the better choice?

They are both significantly better than stock. You can't directly compare the materials, becuase they are completely different processes. 300m is a through-hardened material, where as the quadco xr is through hardened (softer) and then case hardened. I'd go for the nbt one just because of the rust preventative plating and the fact that they were developed by an actual 3S vendor (cheaper is just a bonus).

Even though they are different processes, you can still compare them. Has there been any destructive testing (Charpy V-notch test, Nil Ductility transition test, drop weight test, etc; yes, I know these are unlikely) done on the two materials to give a strength yeild? I know the corrosion resistant coating is a bonus but how much rusting do you really have on the splines of your stock output shafts? I know I have some small amount but it is minimal so I'm not sure the corrosion inhibiter is absolutely necessary. To be quite honest, I'm not really sure which to go with, the Mark Williams output shaft is more widely available (easy to find at Supercar) but then I've heard a lot of good things about NBT; price is a concern but I'd rather just go with the better of the two.
