Just speaking in general, it would be easier for me to pay for the parts to replace 1st and 2nd as opposed to having a complete rebuild done. If I had the money though, I would happily send my tranny to you, Kormex, or nothbend, hell even the local mitsu dealership..., but i need a band-aid until I can get the rebuild money together.

"cluster rebuilding", that's a great concept. You're talking about someone like me. I've split mine to replace the output shaft and input seal/bearing, and have done much research on how to replace syncros, but haven't been looking forward to the project. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Yes alot of DIYers some of us have encouraged it for years , but there is ALOT of room for someone that offers good transmissions. I have sold many transmissions and parts to the guys on the board and for the most part they have been great and I'm beholding to these guys .Again, welcome and I wish you the same luck that I have had here over the years . No?? There are a bunch of good options for obtaining Getrag parts and Getrag transmissions, including Kormex. The best ones I can think of serving the 3Si guys are:
-Kormex -Jack -Northbend (not sure of Northbend is still doing rebuilds though due to a parts shortage as stated on their website?? http://www.northbendtech.com/Services.html)

I'm sure shipping is a big price factor too. Just for another option if anybody's near Dayton Ohio I've been rebuilding these as an occasional side hobby for several years. Just PM me, or if you just need some assistance I'll help if I can.
Kormex is great - he actually talked me into doing my first rebuild years ago when I contacted him for a quote on rebuilding mine!

I'm a pretty big DIY myself, but the tranny just seems like a huge task even for someone like me.
What my situation is, is as follows: I have a tranny sittin in my garage that has a piece that cracked off in the casing(gear side, NOT bellhousing) that caused all the fluid to leak out. I started to disassemble it by taking out the bolts holding on the casing, but stopped there... going off to school and plenty of other commitments put that on hold. Before the thing locked up the only problems were the common 2nd gear synchro and not sure if it's so common but 5th gear synchro, so I'm hoping a rebuild would only involve welding the piece back on the casing and a 1/2 and 5/R synchro. As for my current transmission, I bought it used off of ebay, good condition but after a few heavy pulls 2nd started going bad and 5th as well(again not sure if it's a common problem for 5th) but I know that those are the only issues w/ the current tranny, but since I have a spare sitting in my garage as a paper-weight, what would be a good quote for the rebuild service just involving the 2 synchros? and what would high end be if there is a full-rebuild necessary?
