I switched from Redline to BG Syncroshift and that made a significant difference with reduced notchiness going into gears. Haven't tried the GM stuff - it is rumored to be the same as the BG product, but I've always used the BG with good results in many DSMs and 3S personal and customer cars.

I made the same switch a few years back. I noticed an immediate improvement going into 3rd. I have to wonder if the rumor is related to the similiar sounding names.

Getting ahold of crs can be tedious at times. If anyone is looking for a source for bearings, NAPA has them. They are the same brand crs sells (german made SKF) They are packaged in a napa box, but in the fine print is skf. They are also around the same price as crs, but no cod charges, or freight if they have them in stock.

Front diff = 32008x & 32009x (1ea)
Front diff drive gear/shaft = 32009x (x2)
VCU rear brg = 32009x (x1)

Not sure about the vcu front, or the counter shaft

Ameture zone also has them in the "timken" brand, same part numbers and probably cheaper, but i choose german made parts for my german built tranny.

Red Line is about three times as cheap. The Synchromesh did seem to help a little bit with my 2nd gear high RPM grinding but honestly, the difference is not large enough to warrent me spending the big bucks to put it in my tranny again. If any one needs Synchromesh to fix a grinding problem then they are just delaying the enevitable. Plus, Red Line is GL-4 and not GL-5 like Synchromesh. GL-4 is what the manual recommends and GL-5s decrease the life span of brass/bronze synchro material from what I remember.
I started with BG after the engine rebuild and switched to Red Line and didn't notice a difference. Then I switched to Pennzoil Synchromesh and noticed shifting was very noticeably improved. But "big bucks" for Synchromesh? It cost about $4.50 at Auto Zone (if available) and I bought a case of 12 quarts for $52 (includes 7%+ tax). Red Line is like, what, $6-7 a quart? Hardly worth the extra cost.

Also, Synchromesh has NO GL rating. It is NOT GL-4; nor is it GL-5.

And, yes, Quaker State, Texaco, and GM products are the exact same formulation.

So is "permatex ultra gray" the preferred case sealant?
