We found a source for the springs. It just isn't a very practical source. they are out of a $65 chevy over haul kit. Sixty five dollars for a set of springs doesn't sound too good to me but it is better than $200+ for a synchro assembly. If any one knows of an alternitive source let me know.
Pretty much any transmission repair shop will have tons of them available and will usually give them out for free.

I tried several local tranny shops when I needed one, none could find anything, but aamco was happy to sell me that chevy kit for $63.17. It did come with six of them though. That's rediculous for a little spring but when you're waiting on it to put your whole car back together...

I have 2. I want $9.99 shipped for each though. Cause if I don't get my money back out of them I will just keep them for the next time I do a tranny in case one is broken...

I've had them posted here:
http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php?t=197934

I was going to post sooner, but I had to find where I put them since I hadn't needed them for so long.

OK, we'll take the 2. He went around some tranny shops monday and couldn't find any. He picked some up at Ace hardware that are very close but the wire dia is larger and overall ID is smaller, so i've advised him to use your instead.

Whats your Paypal address??

as some of you have said the 1 and 2 syncros are thin and weak, what if you used a stronger material like titanium?
did anyone ever see if other getrag awd trannies use any of our parts? or if anythign can be adapted to our trannies?
i hade my whole trannie re built and bout 99% of the parts CRS supplied to dodge so that they could re build my trannie, i did not pay for any of it due to the fact i had a wannenty on my car, which was nice, what bout the rear end in our cars like the spyder gears and the vcu back there? do we have replacement parts for those too?
another option is to convert our cars to rwd like that one member did, i think he welds the vcu shut, that is an option

I would be that one member.

I didn't weld the VCU. That is way to expensive to weld up. Instead, I welded the planetary gears together. I am TRYING to find a weak link and so far I haven't. I beat the living crap out of my poor car and it takes it.

As far as the rear end goes, I have been unable to damage anything from 2nd gear 7K clutch dumps to driving it like I stole it but the rear VCU is starting to wear out. Don't due to power or launching or sanything mind you. It started to really go out when I did a few hundred doughnuts. That last one at NOPI (one minutes and six seconds long starting in 2nd gear keeping the engine at ~7200 RPM the whole time) really did a number on it. That is excessive abuse though. VCU's were never intended to lock up for that amount of time at that wheel speed (about 70 mph).

As for the synchros, the are not thin. If they were thin then they could not become wedged together to synchronize the gears and you would never be able to shift even with double clutching. If they were made thicker then they would be wedged at all times and you could not disengauge the gear. It has been my experience that the people how go through synchros are either not a very good shifter (I know it sounds bad for me of all people to say this but I am guilty of this one), do not use their clutch when they shift, don't change their fluid on a regular basis, and/or have clucth disengaugement issues.

I have been keeping my eye on the synchros used in other trannies. I am currently in Nashville TN for a class about Saturn transaxles. The Ion/Vue manuals have 1/2 synchros that appear to be a smaller version of ours. They are also made by Getrag.

Sorry for the partial hijack, but a word to the wise about the stability of Getrag transmissions. BMW is using them in the new V10 M% hitting the states next year. 7 speed automatic/manual tranmission...very nice. So for all those that think these trannys suck...
