Dude that is far from overkill. Reread the posts in the rebuild thread about needing 15tons on some parts. Plus for $300 thats a great price for that machine. I did a search on the internet and came up with some horrific out of control prices for machines that looked no better than that one. I installed some teflon strips on my machine to get rid of the play spoken of earlier. I put long strips along the frame of the unit and some smaller ones where the head contacts those long strips. Teflon sliding on Teflon. Nice, snug press motion now with a minute amount of play. Cudos on the great find though.

Mentor can get you a complete 3 piece syncro set for 1st and 2nd gear. It's a very good idea to replace all 3 pieces if you're tearing the trans apart. The syncro kit for 1st or 2nd is around $200.
CRS sells just the outer ring and the friction ring. You can buy each of those separately. If you want to cut corners and save some money, you can get the two piece set from CRS for around $45 (if my pricing is up to date). It's a big price difference, I know. But for me, personally, I'd rather replace all the wear parts and be done with it once and for all. |

I dont plan on replacing the synchros myself, i talked to a mechanic friend of my dads and he told me to get the synchros and bring the tranny and synchros to him and he'll do it. So i'm just gonna get a whole synchro set and the seals. Does mentor sell this whole kit?... if they do.. i'm guessing its gonna be a hefty price huh?

This is close enough to the $250.00 mark where I give 3SI members free UPS Ground shipping in the 48 states. As for the seals: Do you have certain ones in mind or do you just want to replace them all while its apart? Feel free to contact me using the 3SI email or go to my online store. Thanks, Howard BTW-Gatecrasher nice to see you online I hope all is well.

I didn't believe this when I heard it either but CRS now has the inner rings again. Bill Lane at CRS just sold me some a little while ago. But they are running very low on the outer rings. In which case it's good to know we will always have Mentor Mitsubishi to look forward to. Bill was actually hesitant to sell me two of them. Still doesn't hurt to check if CRS has all three instock though.
I found it interesting that the CRS shows more PN changes than Mitsubishi does. I'm trying to get Bill to fax me a copy of his year/PN change spread sheet but he seems to be pretty busy so far.

I got a quick question for anyone who knows. It might have been answered but are these tranny parts still being made at all by getrag or are we just diminishing our supply and will eventually run out.
