ukyo- PM sent.. hope you reply soon. I went to NAPA auto parts today in search of a spring, and they recommended a local tranny shop to me. one of their workers tried to match the stock spring with another spring.. here are some pics. the new spring is slightly taller than the original, but also has slightly less tension. if i compress the new spring to the height of the original (less than ¼" difference between the two springs) then the tension is pretty similar, with the original spring still being a little stronger. Do you guys think this spring will do the job? I couldnt get a hold of "Gloria" at CRS and Kormex didnt help me for shit. Would this work, or should i search for another spring that's identical to the original? Also, both springs are within ½ a millimeter in diameter (width) and the coils are almost identical in width too.

how important is it for the spring to be exactly the same as the original? a spring is a spring, right? or am i wrong?

let me know what u guys think i should do.

one pic shows the new spring on the shift lever thing, and the other pic compares the original and the new spring (new spring on the left, original on the right).

Like I already mentioned... the spring must be EXACTLY the same. I tried a spring that was "almost" identical (I suspect from a 6-speed or an early 5-speed) and it didn't shift for shit in my 25 spline 5-speed. You could certainly try it since the only thing you'll loose is the 30 minutes it takes to remove/install the shifter select mechanism. Just bench shifting the tranny you'll know if it works or not...

everyone on this thread wants to know why they dont have parts suppliers and why there arent many companies that would help out in situations like the above ,this is a great example let me tell you guys what happened with this punk !

He emailed me 3 times and I received 4 phone calls on my toll free number about his transmission shifting problem ,seems he had some slop after he disassembled the trans and re-assembled it himself and now needed some help.
After the E-mails and the phone calls I mentioned to him that he may have left the bushing out of the shift linkage when he re-assembled the trans back . Since he couldnt figure out what I was talking about over the phone then I decided that since he wasnt too far away he can just drive the trans over to our shop and we would have a look at it . after more phone calls we decided that saturday was a good time and he can stop by . So saturday came around and I had forgotten that I was getting some visitors from out of town and I was showing them around at another building , I wasnt at the Kormex building when he showed up whith his trans in the trunk of a Q45. I got a call on my cell phone about him being at the building and since I wanted to help and I gave my word ,I got on a truck and drove ever to help this guy. As soon as I got there I saw that I was correct in my diagnose about the bushing being left out during assembly ,So I went into the shop and found a bushing that the builder had in his workbench and took it out and handed to him ,actually he didnt want to touch such a dirty part, ahha that why this guy couldnt understand me on the phone -he didnt want to get his hands dirty !- . I also noticed that his shifter didn't bias to the center like its supposed to ,so I mentioned that he may have also forgotten his spring at the bottom of the shift linkage ,at this time he didnt hear me cause he was on his Cell phone talking while I was trying to explain.
I just stood there for a minute and he wouldnt stop talking on his cell phone so I went inside the building to catch-up on some other stuff . Ok after 3 minutres the guy comes in the building and I go back out again to explain about the spring ,he said thanks . So it looked like he was about to leave when I said "that will be five bucks" pointing at the bushing . "Five bucks for this SHIT ! "he said ,"Yea thats right 5 bucks" this kid was really getting on my nervs but I thought whatever (I got too much stuff on my mind ) . So he looks through his wallet and HE DOESN'T HAVE $5.00 !,So he asks a girl that is in the car talking on a cell phone for $5.00 and she says NO !. I took MY bushing back in the building and I said to Lucas inside ,"I gotto split but dont let this guy take MY bushing without paying five bucks " Lucas laughed he knew this kid had gotten to me. As I was leaving the building he was walking back in with a $5.00 bill in hand . 2 days later I got a phone call from him asking if I have the spring ,I said "no I dont" but try CRS ,"Do you have their phone number ?" NO .

There are a bunch of nice people on this board and they know I like talking to them and hearing from them ,but this guy is one of the Dipshits that I would rather avoid .

Allen are you really that much of a douche bag? You should have flipped him a $20 for his hassles (not that he really wanted it, just a gesture)... he really went WAY out of his way for you.

Gatecrasher really helped me out with the pics above, and again I would like to thank him for the effort... it really eased my mind.

Frank not everyone is ungrateful for your help I am sure.

Frank, I didnt mean to sound like an ass, a disphit, or even a punk (even though I think thats what you ended up thinkin about me). I was getting kind of frustrated because it was taking forever to find a little spring, and I needed to drive 45 miles to pick up a little plastic bushing since the dealership doesnt have parts for me. I honestly do appreciate you coming back from whatever business you were attending to on saturday afternoon to help me out when I arrived at Kormex. You were right about the bushing not being in place- I didnt install it the last time I took it apart. Thanks for noticing the problem and helping me out with it. I dont know what you meant by "he didnt wana get his hands dirty"... because I didnt really mind. I ended up washing my hands inside after touching some dirt and grease anyway, but thats besides the point. after checking out the shift lever, Frank realized that it wouldnt really pop back into the middle like its supposed to. when he asked me about the spring being put into place, I told him yea its in. when I took it apart a couple days ago, the spring was Broken in two pieces (as you guys now know). I was simply surprised that I had to pay $5 for a mini bushing that was no larger than my pinkie's fingernail, after driving all that way and considering you guys are a huge tranny shop. my friend didnt really exclaim NO either..After thinking about the situation, I guess you were right, Frank. $5 isnt all that bad. my wallet was empty but full of credit cards, my friend's wallet was empty as well, but luckily the ashtray had $10 in it. it's also wierd how u guys said you wouldnt accept credit cards either, since I was willing to charge $5 on it (I dont have ATM to draw money from it). I apologize for not paying you $5 the moment you asked for it, but hey- I offered my credit card to you and I managed to dig up a $5 bill from inside the car. The cell phone was rude, I do admit that, but it was a very important call from my dad regarding a job interview coming up. I was kind of shocked when you told me you didnt have a spring for the shift lever lying around anywhere. I guess that quick response got me even more frustrated than before. Luckily ukyo helped me out with the spring from his 6spd tranny, and i'll be receiving it tommorrow. Frank (and Kormex as a whole)- I didnt mean to be a "dipshit punk", and thanks for going out of your way and helping me out with the transmission. I dont think its necessary to start a flame war on such a well developed thread that I know I'll be using as a reference in the future, so I think it would be wise to just end it here. To make a long story short, (I'll be mature about it) I'm not the bad guy and neither is Frank at Kormex, and I wana thank every1 that helped me out with the little problems I've been having with a few of these Getrag parts.

I did offer my credit card, but he only wanted cash. I DID pay him though, and I do realize he went out of his way for me, and I appreciate that very much.

Rob- No i'm not at all a douche bag, punk, or dipshit (I dont think I should have been called those names at ALL in the first place anyway, making me look like the complete bad guy...).

I'd really appreciate it if you guys could keep this thread on topic. Explaining the situation at Kormex is one thing, because it does help to shed some light on possible reasons people won't help us, but if you guys feel the need to continue to discuss that specific situation, that's why we have email and private messages. Thanks

Alright, I read through this whole thing, but I haven't really been able to keep the part numbers straight. I want to replace all the syncros in my trans, but I'm not sure if I should replace anything else at the same time. It should be in good shape (besides the syncros) and the only reason they're acting up is because I forgot to put grease on my input shaft when I changed my clutch a month ago, and it hasn't shifted well since. Last week the first gear syncro went completely, and I don't know how long the others will last. Anyway, since I'm gonna have to take this friggin tranny out again anyway, I might as well make it perfect (and fix the first gear syncro that is ruined anyway). So I would appreciate it if someone would be kind enough to provide a list of recommended replacement bits I should look into getting. Thanks a bunch!
