Spoke to a buddy of mine, we talked about this for about an hour. We figured that we are both looking for better jobs and being that both of us have experience in running/starting a business that we could possibly start a new company to get these parts. We would work directly with the 3si community and with Getrag to get parts actively and work to improve parts and make upgrades possible. If anyone thinks this is a good idea, we will meet tomorrow and see if its worth investing in and go from there.

CRS has been taking parts out of their rebuild stock. They are not a parts supplier but have been very nice to us in selling us some of their stock. Unfortunately their hands are tied in this matter. I know some engineering buddies back in MI who may be able to help me. Another buddy of mine has a relitive who works at Getrag. I'll see what I can turn up there. If you know any one in Getrag or Mitsubishi who may be able to help then go ahead and see what you can figure out. May be if they see several of us trying from many different parts of the country they will start to figure it out.

As for the rebuilds out there, you just have to e-mail or call in your order and hope they have it. If CRS or Kormex don't have the parts then you'll just haveto wait for them to turn up some where. Sucks I know but lets not start blaming CRS or Kormex. They are very valueable assets to us.

As for starting a company that can get us Getrag parts any time, that wouldb e great. But I doubt you would be able to make it worth your time financially speaking. I'd hate for a fellow member's bussiness to go under because it was TOO specialized. If you are going to open a speed shop you have to focus on more than one car and you have to know those cars like the back of your hand.

If any one can contact Getrag and get some info then go ahead and do it. Don't go off on them, just figure out what would have to happen to get parts out of them. We could use some contacts on the Mitsubishi side also. I don't want both sides to end up saying it's the others responceability.

There's a Getrag office about 20 minutes from my place. I'm willing to go over there in person if the need arises.

here's another thought that hasn't been tackled yet. what if somebody found a high-end machine shop that would be able to simply remake these parts for us as needed? we find a few perfectly new ones for them to reference and get their measurements from. it would take some time if they didn't want to carry anything in stock, but slow is better than nothing. i'm sure after some orders roll through that they'd start making a few extras of the more common parts.

i'm not sure if patent laws would become an issue or not. there are lots of companies out there that make parts identical to OEM that aren't a part of or in league with the original manufacturer.

i have a friend of the family who owns a super-precision machine shop, but i'm not sure if this is something he would tackle or not. i'll find out.

there's a lot more to be discussed and explored with that, but i'm in a bit of a rush.

also, would somebody be willing to write up a petition letter that we could send around and send to Mitsu and Getrag? not that i think it will do a whole lot of good, but at least then they will be aware of our views.

with this being mostly/all about money for them, if we end up totalling out our marvelous 3/s's, what do they currently offer for us as a replacement? nothing. performance-wise, the two closest would be the Viper and Evo. the Viper is way too spendy, and the Evo has no chance of comparing with our cars on numerous levels. I guess if our 3/s's broke, we'd all have find another manufacturer that will fit our needs. Sorry Mitsu, if you pull these parts and i need them, its full-time back to Mazdas for me.
