If any one has not read this entire thread please do so before contributing to it. I know it is long but it nessisary so we don't continue to post in loops.
If any one has questions concerning parts price quotes and availability then e-mail Gloria at CRS or get up with Frank at Kormex. Theo posted Gloria's e-mail bellow. The numbers in the CRS diagrams are reference numbers. CRS has different PNs for the parts I believe. If any one needs the diagrams e-mail me as it states in my sig. Gatecrasher - Sorry for the CAPS update taking so long. The files are too big to fit on a floopy so I had to safe up for a burner. Before I had a chance to install it I had a family emergency and I am currently in OH. (I drove up from NC.) I'll take care of it ASAP when I get back in town. I wouldn't waste my time cross referenceing the roller tapered bearing PN's, they have universal PNs on them and the local parts store can cross reference them to any other manufacturer. (NSK, FAG, Timkim, who ever.) Tell Mentor Mitsu in a PM about our e-mail we had a while back. I would appreciate it if every one didn't bother CRS about a parts supplier or ordering more parts for us. I have talked with CRS about the issue and they will NOT order more parts untill they need them for THEIR OWN rebuilds. CRS refered me to an individual at Getrag about establishing a parts suplier. Getrag then refered me to an individual at Mitsubishi Motor Sale of America. I am currently working with that individual but they are very busy and there is a lot of red tape to go through. Please be patent. I would like to ask that any one who needs parts please e-mail me witht he followign info. Your name Year of car Model tranny and TC number (W5MG1-0-FNBR for example.) CRS reference numbers or parts description if you don't know then. I am creating a list of parts to show the demand for parts and will use this to show MMSA they can make money by createing a parts supplier.

Brett, thanks for trying to get me that update. You may not need to worry about it though. Howard is sending me one of his.
Howard, I'm glad you got your CD. Drop me a note if you have any problems getting set up. Don't worry about the delays. I can sympathize with juggling things around. I do over-the-phone computer tech support for a living ![]() For everyone else, I've finished the 6 speed cross reference. It was a pain in the ass, but hopefully it'll be worth it. I just need to double check a couple things and then format it into something readable. Hopefully I'll post it tomorrow or Thursday, and then I can start work on the 5 spd.

Brett and Gate-
Thanks for all your help with this. Myself as well as other 3Si members are greatfull. I hope in the end we can have a parts supplier for our trannies and will be able to get a bunch of parts, not just a few of them. Let me know if you need anything from me.

Ok guys, here's the deal.
Howard is going to order a 2nd gear syncro ring kit for my 6 speed. If it's wrong, I'll be out the money and we'll know this deal is basically dead. If it's right, we'll work on getting the rest of the parts ordered. Since the 6 speed 1/2 rings are the same as on the 93 5 speed, I'll try to work with one of the local guys to check it against a 5 speed unit too. It would really help if we can find someone to take the plunge on the 91-92 5 speed model though. Those carry a different PN for the syncro rings. He's also going to order a couple input shaft bearings for the guys who were asking about those. Bret, we're not trying to go over your head or question your abilities. I just want to excercise every option we have available. The ONLY reason I cracked and bought an AWD 3S, after the tons of problems I had with my FWD car, was because I thought I could finally get trans parts for it. If this does not work out, I will have to seriously consider selling the car. Forgive me if I seem a little desperate. I love this car far more than my last one, but I cannot endure another money pit like I used to have. ![]() We'll keep everyone posted on the progress of the order. I'm going to go out and buy a 20-ton press in the next couple of days so that I can have everything torn apart and ready to go once the syncro rings get here. Watch this space for further updates ![]() |

This is a little OT, but I just went through a rebuild of my 6-speed by Kormex. While I was at it, I had all of the internal parts cryogenically treated and shot-peened to try and improve the strength and durability of the parts. If the trannys are one of the weak links in the car and I'm adding substantial HP, then I would rather take the time and $$ now to try and avoid doing another rebuild. The total additional cost for all of that including transportation of the parts back and forth across the country was about $400-$500. Hopefully I won't need the parts again, but I'm interested and may start buying them if they become available. I plan to drive this car until I can no longer pass the driver's test.
Thanks for all of the good effort.

If needed I'll contribute $10 to start a pool to help cover the costs if the parts are wrong, kind of like insurance to encourage someone to take the plunge. If they are the right parts then the money stays with the contributors since the buyer got what was intended, but if not the cost is divided up so nobody loses so much.

Thanks for the offer Theo. We'll keep it in mind.
Speaking for myself, I'm not looking for insurance. I don't have the budget to design some crazy new turbo kit or some custom engine components, but if I can do this to help everyone along on maintaining their cars, it's a risk I have no problem taking. |

I lost track of this thread a couple weeks ago (Sorry!). I spoke with my friend's dad about creating parts for the tranny's, but he didn't really know of anyone else I could go to. And unfortunately the order's would be too small for his company to consider producing them (They're a manufacturuer of Mercedes Truck transmissions, which made them a perfect candidate for tranny parts).
So, I struck out..how's everyone else doing? |
