Default Re: Found this for DSM, is this true for 3/S?

I have the spec 3+.

I decreased my clutch stroke, and found that it made my grinding much better. My clutch grabs when it is almost fully released.

One thing to note is that I have eliminated my clutch vacuum tank, but I don't think that plays into this at all.

I found that by having the car idling (with the drivers side door open) and pushing in the clutch I could actually hear the transmission "clunk" into gear. This was after I adjusted the pedal to all the factory specs. I then decreased the pedal stroke by making a mark on the clutch master cylinder rod, and moving it one full turn at a time. After I had decreased the throw I have no more clunking into gear, and the shifting is much improved.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the way that the spec pressure plate is made compared to the way that the stock pressure plate is made. I think the spec clutch setup does not require so much clearance? Anyways I know that it is much, much better now.

When I first put my spec in I was having grinding issues.

Turns out you have to adjust the clutch some with the stronger pressure plate for better engagement. Anyways I just adjusted it under the dash and its been butter ever since.
