Cheap Clutch Set Up...
I got a Stage 1 Clutch kit from F1 (eBay) to only use the upgraded pressure plate. I then got a brand new OEM clutch disk to use; instead of the Exedy that came with it. My Reasoning... The RPS MAXX Street uses the OEM clutch disk with an upgraded pressure plate, and it holds 510hp. The F1 pressure plate is the same one ACT uses (F1 is an ACT company), and their stage 1, 2, and 3 all use the same pressure plate. SO An oem disk should do the job up to 510hp, what I wonder is why the exedy clutch disk only holds to 325hp? (According to the F1 stage specs). ![]() Brand New F1 Pressure Plate and Brand New OEM disk = $293 Shipped Thoughts? |

Well, the pressure plates are from two different manufacturers, RPS and ACT. So there could be some differences there in clamping force. But 325 still sounds low to me. Perhaps this clutch is for and NA and not a TT?

F1 racing sucks! I bought their stage 3 carbon to hold me over until i installed my turbos and fuel. I figured it would last a few thousand miles, didn't even make it a thousand. The rps max pressure plate has 2900lbs of clamping force. I believe the f1 racing is 2200. Either way if it was rated for 325ft/lbs with a full face disk, changing to another full face disk wont change that figure much.

So you think the pressure plate makes the difference?
I thing the disks that they use ARE crap, but thats why im going OEM. Either way, the RPS holds 570 some hp. If this set up holds 500hp I will be more than happy. |

The f1 racing stage one pressure plate is basicly a stock replacement. Like i said take any pressure plate, use ANY full face disk, and the torque capacity will be about the same with any disk. The rps hold 500+ ft/lbs because it has 2900 lbs of clamping force. I removed the clutch booster in my car and i can really feel the difference in the pedal. A spec stage 2 has more pedal effort than a f1 racing stage 3. BTW clutches are rated for torque not horsepower. A motorcycle clutch might only need to hold 70ft/lbs to put out 150 horsepower. Horsepower is a function of rpm and torque.

It will work but not sure you are going to hold the fl/lbs you are expecting.
One of the best setups alot of BPU vr4s used down here for the track was an RPS/ACT pressure plate with the stock oem disc. This would let us do 7k clutch dumps without fearing for our transfer :P

If you are going to spend the money for something that only holds as much as stock, then just get a stock set up. Other wise, get some thing worth while, like a Center Force, SPEC, or RPS. I still wouldn't do a 7k dump though. I've seen even OEM setups break TCs that way and their 60' times aren't any better (a lot of times worse) than launching at lower rpms.

ACT 2600 and what they call the "organic" disc. (carbon and kevlar) It holds power, makes for wicked launches and lasts forever. I have somewhere in the area of 3000k RACING miles, and more than fifty 6000rpm stutterbox launces on it and it's still in great shape. Highly recommend it.
